PC PSU question

I’m pretty sure I’ve got a bad PSU on my hands, but I thought that, since I won’t be able to return it until tomorrow, I’d see if more knowledgeable people had any input.

To begin with, I work in IT (support) and I build most of my computers. This issue is a first for me (but I think I’m right in saying the PSU is bad).

The computer in question is a brand-new build (by me). The problem is that the computer shuts off at random intervals; sometimes after 30 seconds and sometimes after several hours. When it does this, it won’t come back on until after I turn the switch on the power supply off and then back on.

I don’t think it’s a CPU overheating issue, as sometimes the computer barely has time to start up. And because, sometimes, after it shuts down, I can immediately restart the computer and it will start up and run, sometimes for hours.

So I’m appealing to the Teeming Millions to see if there’s something I’ve overlooked (and because I hate the thought of undoing all the cable routing I did so I can return the unit).

Any ideas?

Do you have one of these gizmos which can check the voltages coming out of the PSU? I use them all the time. May give you more of an idea.
