- I had -uh, some version of QuickTime I had downloaded onto my computer a long time ago, that worked fine, for a long time. And now it doesn’t. I have IE 4 (4.72.+++) and Netscape Nav 4, and haven’t OPTED to update either in a long time. - What happens is that the sound for the QuickTime movie plays as normal, but the video doesn’t; usually a “hole” to the underlying window (or desktop, if nothing else is open) appears. I don’t use QT all that much, but it is annoying to have stuff uninstalled surrepititiously. Did MS do it again? - MC
It could have been mangled by several different programs. RealPlayer uninstalls QT. Windows Media Player disrupts QT. If you’ve installed or updated either of these programs, you should reinstall QT to restore it to function.
This should give you some idea of how good QT is, everyone wants to kill it.
Are you sure about that Chas.E?
I have both QuickTime and RealPlayer on my system and find no problems between the two.
I have always hated the quicktime player. MS MediaPlayer plays QT so i don’t need it. I hardly ever play QT clips anyway. It seems MPEG is the way things are going.
Get & install the latest version from apple.com Its free.
Depends on which you installed first, and if you were smart enough to turn off certain default options.
I noticed that Apple recently licensed its QT technology to Real. Real gained the ability to play back all QT files, and in return, Apple got a promise that Real would no longer deliberately disrupt its installation and settings. What a deal!
First, you need to clarify something. Are these old .mov files you are watching, or new ones? Because most of the new ones use Quicktime 4 codecs, and cannot be played on any other version.
I suspect that is really your problem.
