PCU and George Clinton

Do you think the movie PCU introduced George Clinton and P-Funk to a whole new generation? I certainly was introduced to them by that movie.

How many people saw PCU? 3? 4?

Somehow I doubt it had much impact on P-F’s record sales.

I thought everyone who watched Comedy Central on a regular basis in the late 90’s got to see PCU multiple times. They played it a lot.

Most people I know my age saw PCU.

Word. It’s a decently fun movie, too, at least compared to the crapola CC usually played.

I’d heard of George Clinton before seeing PCU but hadn’t heard any of his music. Other than what was played in the movie, I found I didn’t care for his music that much.

I guess Snoop probably had a hand in introducing Gen X to Parliament.

I definitely agree. My brothers and I (born 1980-1984) first heard Parliament and Funkadelic through Dr. Dre’s samples for his and Snoop’s beats. By the time we saw PCU, the music was already familiar to us.

I saw it in the theater. And it was the first time I’d ever heard of George Clinton.

Not that it did his sales any good, I 've never bought anything of his, or become a fan or anything. About the only noticeable thing was I recognized him as a hidden character in NBA JAM.

Having recently found out mswas is in his late 20s (dude, I thought you were over 40), I have to concur. If you were in high school in the 90s you loved PCU, it’s basically a requirement.

And telling someone “Don’t be that guy” when talking about wearing the band’s t-shirt to their concert will get a definite nod of approval.

Jeremy Piven played a 37 year old college student pretty well.

Despite being a regular Comedy Central viewer, I somehow never saw more than a couple of minutes of PCU. I think West Coast rap probably introduced George Clinton to more people than the movie did.

Is that where that stupid thing comes from? Huh. Live and learn.

I’m 31. And yeah it was like Animal House for us.

Yep, most people know exactly what you’re talking about.

I think I was introduced to him from House Party. “Two drops in a bucket…”

Ahh. I never saw that one. This thread just keeps on coming back up. I love it.
