PDF/Acrobat Question

We create forms for web distribution using Adobe Acrobat 8. In each form is a link to a particular page on our website. What the customer sees is the actual URL of the page, which can be lengthy/unattractive. Using Acrobat 8, can I replace the lengthy URL with something like the text “Click Here.” In other words, and for lack of a more technical description, the actual URL is hidden behind the “Click Here.” Obviously, this can be done, but is it doable with Acrobat 8? Thanks.

Here’s a link on how to create links:

I’m not sure what version that’s for, but it describes manual creation of links. Are you wanting to create them automatically when creating PDFs?

Not being real familiar with this this process, I’m not sure how to answer your question. As we don’t do this very often I’ll say automatic not necessary.

I believe that there’s at least one way to tell Acrobat to automatically create links from a document that is being converted to PDF. I’m not sure of the details… but here’s a likely-looking plugin. The plugin creates both bookmarks and links based on things like text styles. For links, it somehow has to manage both the link text and the kink destination for each link.

Change the color of the text to blue and underline it. Select the link tool from the Advanced Editing toolbar or Tools, Advanced Editing. Draw an invisible link box over the text and set it to your URL.

I think what **Sunspace **is referring to is that Acrobat can automatically create the links for you by taking information from the source document and converting it to a link when the PDF is created from that source. For example, if your source document is in Word, you’d insert a web hyperlink or cross-reference or something. When you create a PDF from the Word document, Acrobat automatically takes the target information from the document and sets up the link for you, so that you don’t have to go back and manually add it later.

So, if you’re working with an original source, yep, you can have it do it for you automatically as you create the PDF. However, if you’re generating the forms from within Acrobat (they’ve added a “fillable forms” feature to the package, but I’ve never used it and am unfamiliar with it), I’m not certain how you’d set this up. Perhaps there’s something in the help.
