Peaches

What’s the difference between The Stranglers’s Peaches radio edit and non-radio edit?

Off the top of my head, the radio edit says “Is she trying to get out of that bikini?” as opposed to the original “Is she trying to get out of that cli-TOR-is?” (which besides being pronounced with the accent on the wrong syl-LAB-le, doesn’t make a hell of a lot of sense). I expect the “Oh, shit!” is also censored, though I don’t remember this offhand.

“Shit” and “bummer” were both considered too naughty for the radio, so

became:

[In addition to the “clitoris” --> “bikini” change, that is.]

Why TF was “what a bummer” changed? I would never have thought this was a reference to “bum”. And even if it was, does anyone really consider that obscene?

I usually say, ‘What a bottomer!’

Things don’t have to be obscene to be the work of the debbil and thus unfit for our airwaves anymore, merely “indecent”. You can thank Janet Jackson’s tit for that.
