Just wanted to let you know that there will be TWO DVD versions of “Pearl Harbor,” with the big difference being that the first one, to be released this December, will not have the commentary by the director, Michael Bay.
The second one, to be released in May 2002, will have the commentary, along with some other goodies. It’s only about $7 more.
I noted this while reading an LA Times story by Michael P. Lucas and saw in the last paragraph:
As for a Video Premiere
award, Bay will be eligible next
year, since his commentary
will be issued next May as part
of a director’s cut DVD edition.
The first DVD release of “Pearl
Harbor” is set to coincide with
the 60th anniversary of the ac
tual attack in December and
won’t carry a commentary
track.
From here. If I’m reading it correctly, and if the information is accurate, it sounds like there’ll be three editions of the DVD: the commemorative edition, the 2-disc edition, and the 3-disc edition.
(Even the world’s greatest movie couldn’t justify three different DVD editions, but that’s just MHO.)
This brings up a question: From this and several other sources, I’ve read that the release date for the (first two editions of the) DVD is December 4th. The 4th will be a Tuesday; IIRC, 12/7/41 was a Sunday. So is that release date wrong, or does somebody not know their history?
