"Pee Shivers"

Just a moment ago I was relieving myself when I was overcome with a rather awakening case of the “Pee Shivers”. What causes this, and is it strictly a male thing. I know that I am not alone, but I have only brought this topic to the table when talking to the guys.

“To pee, or not to pee. That is the question.”

You came to the right place, but you could have searched the archives. Cecil wrote a column about this.

Cecil answers all: http://www.straightdope.com/columns/940722.html . And to the extent that Cecil hasn’t answered all, the Teeming Millions have finished the job: http://boards.straightdope.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000354.html .

Enjoy!

I’m female and I’ve experienced it too, so I’d be interested in the answer.

Question answered, with a simulpost, in 3 minutes. Not bad.

I get it sometimes when I’m just plain cold. It’s sort of a minor spasm.

Billdo–

A double simulpost, to boot!

Blame the parasympathetic nervous system.

Although Cecil discussed this before, I think it’s best described as “a tickling from inside”. The sensation is similar to what you’d get from having a feather lightly brushed against your body. That particular part of your body is loaded with nerve endings and responds to the passing of urine as a tickle. Just my theory.
