Penicillin in frozen meals?

Hello, I’ve read this board off and on for a while now and have a question I can’t find the answer to and thought I might find it here.

Is there penicillin in frozen meals? What would the preservatives that might be a derivative of penicillin be called?

Thank you!

I don’t think the any antibiotics are intentionally put into processed food in the US. Residual antibiotics may be found in meat, because they were fed as growth enhancers to the animals. Some people are allergic to Penicillin, so one would think there would need to be warnings if it was being introduced into the food supply.

If there is, it must be a pretty small amount. Alot of people are allergic to penicillin (myself included) and have never had a reaction from frozen foods.

I’m going to take a stab here and say that you are confusing antimicrobials with antibiotics. Foods often have antimicrobials in them to give them longer shelf life. Some examples of antimicrobials found in food are Sodium Bisulfite, Sodium Nitrite, Sodium Nitrate, Calcium Propionate and Disodium EDTA.

Much less than is in our water.

No preservative is a derivative of penicillin.

As has been said here, there are going to be traces of antibiotics and other medications in prepared foods containing meat. Just another reason to go organic.

Hell, at my age I need all the preservatives I can get…

Only if you take the labeling on faith.

Thank you all for your responses.
