I’ve been really sick for the past week with the flu, today I had a doctors’ appointment and he told me I probably had pneaunomia and if I didn’t get better shortly I was going to the hospital. Well after visiting the doctor I get home and not wanting to really do any heavy cleaning I decided to clean out the pens, pencils, and markers that didn’t work or was of no use to us.
One question I really want to know is how many pencils does it take to send two children through scool?
I must have thought there was going to be a pencil shortage of some kind. We had new pencils, new pencils with erasers removed, short pencils like maybe 2-3 inches in length, we had pencils of all kinds. Now as I’m sorting through this mess I get to thinking after about the twenieth short pencil, why is this pencil so short, and why in the world did we keep it? Well I remembered when my youngest daughter ET would always break her pencils and use the short end with the eraser. When asked why she was breaking the pencils she said she could put them in her pocket and not lose them. Made sense at the time. She’s now 13.
Now we get the pencils without erasers. Why do these pencils not have erasers? Well let’s see one year the kids thought it was mandatory to have lead-pencils, only problem with lead pencils, the erasers don’t last long enough, So Mom we took the erasers out of the pencils and put them in the lead pencils,
Now we get the pens, in which we have just as many pens as we do pencils. We had fat pens, skinny pens, flat pens, red pens, green pens, etc… So what comes from these, oh there’s the little red car pen I always played with, Mom you can’t throw that pen out we’ve had it since I was in K-garden (My olderst whose 18)
another pen in the pile didn’t work, youngest one says Mom I bought you that pen don’t you remember?? Yeah Yeah I remember… Then a pen my Dad bought for my husband one year.
I finally get to the box of markers , we have the ones that makes stars, hearts, etc. we have generic, we have crayola, we have the skinny markers, why do we have all these markers??? Well Mom don’t you remember when you found them for 50 cents a pack and bought like twenty five packs of them, we haven’t used them all yet. Yeah girls I remember doing that but gosh that was like 10 yrs ago. Another impending shortage I was preparing for.
The dry erase markers to go with the dry erase board where we spent many long hours learning reading, math, and spelling.
Well needless to say one of each was kept just for memory purposes. But it sure was amazing at the memories that were brought back from pencils, pens and markers.
So where did you find unexpected memories?
