People are a superstitious lot.

Where I live in Winnipeg, if I have our bus route numbering system figured out correctly, routes 10-20 are ones that go from the suburbs through downtown and ending on the suburbs at another end of the city, 21-69 are just from the suburbs to downtown, 70-77 are crosstown routes avoiding downtown and 78-99 are routes that just stay in a particular suburb (some special routes are above 99 and below 10).

Anyways, reason I say that is that IMHO, the city desperately needs more of the 10-20 kind, but all the numbers are used up … except 13. Never has been used as a bus route number in the 30 years I’ve lived here. I’m sure it’s deliberate, but I run into far more fear of the number 666 than the number 13 (possibly because I go to an evangelical church) (there was even a news story once about 20 years ago about residents protesting a proposed 666- telephone exchange in the city (which happened to fall in the Bible Belt part of the city, where 665- and 667- numbers happen to be)
