I have talk to some people and they complain about big government. And some even say big government today is ideas from communism and socialism.
I will like to know if that is true and where the idea big government came from.I think the meaning what is big government is lacking clarification or very misinformed people because they seem to be all over place when they talk about big government from what I have seem .
Typical talk normally goes like this.
anti- smoking laws thank the liberals the big government .
That ban junk food in schools and ban large pop/soda drinks for the well being of the person. Ideas from liberals big government must take car of you from the roots of welfare state.
That ban sagging pants in some cities or areas !! That blame the conservative . But hay you got big government than…Did that come from communism and socialism.
Oh a other one that comes up is how conservative normally push god in society and control morality . But is that big government ideas from communism and socialism?
Communism or Socialism normally they hate capitalism. Normally communism do away with capitalism where Socialism control it or limit it. Both are very strong on the welfare state .The collective good of community is more important the the person right.
Two things of big government .
large welfare state .
2.The collective good of community is more important the the person right.
But then did conservative steal that part of it to push god in society and control morality ? And liberals steal that part to have the government take well being of the people .
I guess we need to ask what is big government and where did it come from
In end is both conservative and liberal big government? And where did these ideas come from?
Both seem to be big government but on different views .Did the idea the government can control ,own or run or say what can or cannot be done came from Communism, Socialism or FDR?
Was the FDR inspired my some of the Communism philosophers?
Wow, not sure whether that OP contains a whole lot or not that much. But I’ll offer my opinion that what most folk tend to criticize as unnecessary or undesireable “big government” tends to be those aspects of government that they do not view themselves as personally needing or benefitting from.
Government is “too big” or too invasive when it interferes with something I want to do. Government’s proper role is to prevent *you *from doing something that might inconvenience or harm me.
It all boils down to the key phrase “[government entity here] should not be wasting money on [something the speaker thinks is irrelevant] while they still haven’t fixed [something the speaker thinks is important - crime, cancer, slash taxes, eliminate whole departments, etc.]” It’s impossible to get across to these types that government, perforce, serves all citizens and is not limited to the small subset of providing what any one individual wants or needs.

Nitpick…it’s baby. So, should be 'Manny poeples try to maek government stop aborting babby but that (take out the isn’t here…what, are you cultured or something??) big government becuse the rong (it’s poeples) r being '…you can’t use ‘coerced’ here, but not sure of the exact word that makes it work.
Just seemed discordant to me, in light of the OP. I admit, MMV however and otherwise it was well written and merged almost seamlessly with the overall vibe the OP was trying to convey.
Ok, but what else could it mean? I don’t see much of a distinction there. The tax dollars and employees needed for the government to do things naturally contribute to the “bigness”.
Sure, but most people who get upset about this stuff are not upset as a matter of principle. If they were, they’d complain about Big Local/State Government too. After all, what does it matter (except under the law) which level of government is undermining your freedoms?
There’s also “the government doing things I’m glad they do”, which would entail a certain bigness that generally isn’t derided as “Big Government”. It really depends on one’s political leanings, but it could be things like a large military, or a universal healthcare system, public education, or assorted public works projects. Naturally, they all have to be executed properly, or else they’ll be seen as wasteful and unnecessary (which to me is a hallmark of “Big Government”).
Nope. Some agricultural subsidies lead to lower prices for some of the foods I buy. Even so, I’d like to see those subsidies wiped along with all others. They’re an example of “big government” if there ever was one. Likewise for fuel subsidies, electricity subsidies, and numerous other such things that may be good for my pocketbook. I’d like to see them all wiped out.
It certainly is true that vast amounts of government spending benefit neither myself nor anyone else, other than the persons who are directly receiving the money. That’s what’s commonly known as “pork barrel spending”, which is a euphemism for corruption, which is a euphemism for theft.
Okay. I guess I could add to my previous statement “that do not agree with their personal philosophies or values.”
This is not what I commonly understood pork barrel spending to mean. I thought it was more spending to benefit a legislator’s constituency or supporters.
And I’m not sure what “vast amounts” spending you have in mind that benefit no one other than the recipient of government funds.
Government should exist ONLY to meet the few needs of a population that require a consorted and group effort such as: infrastructure, emergency services, and defense of the borders. It should also protect the individual from having their natural rights (life and liberty) violated.
Too much beyond that is social engineering …
What people do not understand is that the government is not:
a babysitter
an educator
a retirement planner
your benefactor
your doctor
your pharmacist
your personal piggy bank when you’ve made bad life decisions
your wet nurse
a referee
someone you run to when life is “unfair”
It is not the government’s responsibility to:
take money from others and give it to you
educate your children
protect you from yourself
make everything “safer”
make sure you do not eat too many calories
remind you that the edges of metal street signs are pointy
The FACT is that our government is SO busy trying to figure out how to keep SS alive b/c people REFUSED and continue to REFUSE (despite repeated, decades long warnings) to save for their own retirement that people like myself are driving on shitty infrastructure to get to work everyday while INVOLUNTARILY funneling $500/month into an SS account that won’t be there when they retire.
99% of our problems are caused by a serious LACK OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY that has caused our government to GROW rapidly to meet the needs of people who refuse to take care of their own business…
