People defending Graham Platner are pathetic and intellectually bankrupt

I’m about sick and fucking tired of this childish “I guess you want Collins” to win bullshit. Guess what, in the year 2026 in the social media era, every race gets nationalized if it’s sensationalized enough, generates enough viral content. And guess what it does to Dem chances nationwide if they put up a probably-rapist, Nazi-tattooed dipshit with a history of problematic behavior toward women? It fucking tanks it. Brilliant strategy you’ve got there.

The Maine race is already nationalized. It’s why you’re talking about it even though you’re not a resident. And this is just the primaries. Maine doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Pull your own head out of your own ass.

Then stop wanting Collins to win.

Jesus fucking Christ. Just jump straight to “I know you are but what am I” and be done with it.

Fucking Classic!

I think there is only one person who is determined for Collins to win here, and that is the one arguing to run Platner, the least likely Democrat to win at this point. If you really wanted Collins to lose you be supporting just about anyone else.

Janet Mills was trailing by 30 points BEFORE she dropped out of the race. The people of Maine don’t want the centrist appeasement bullshit the Democratic establishment has to offer. That’s why they’re now trying to take the people’s choice away from them and impose someone they can control.

Platner is the ONLY Democrat who can win at this point. Troy Jackson is not going to ride in on a white horse and save you. If Platner is out, Collins wins, and I’ll be grinning from ear to ear when I get to remind all of you that I told you so.

I don’t think you’ve been paying attention to what I’ve been saying. But I think I’m on the edge of losing my temper and there is just no point arguing over this motherfucker (who I’ve never liked or believed), so I’m just going to nope out of this argument.

So you want Collins to lose so badly that you will ecstatic if she wins.

@Aeschines heads, @smapti tails? Or other way around?

Either way: same coin.

I’m not sure what you are imputing to me here.

My actual position:

  1. Platner has crossed the unacceptable scumbag line at this point (it was debatable whether he was behind it before, but we are trying to defeat fascism here). It’s no longer in our best interest to keep him around.
  2. He is going to lose at this point. His polls were shaky even before the assault accusation came out.
  3. Thus, even from a cynical, self-serving perspective, it is best to get rid of Platner even if we are going to lose with someone else, since we will lose anyway and without him we can pretend to be taking the high ground.
  4. I personally am not cynical. I hate this fucking guy, and our side was being as stupid voting for him and supporting him as the moronic Trumpists have been in supporting Trump. It’s disgraceful.

A question for diehard Platner supporters who still think he could overcome this: how confident are you that this is the last woman to come forward?

It’s an academic question anyway. He’s finished.

I’ll hate it if she wins, but it’s going to be because the Democratic Party is shooting itself in the foot, AGAIN, and I’m not going to shed any tears over the fact that you all fell for a blatant ratfuck.

Depends - how much are they paying her, and will they be offering more to the next one?

It’s because we have ample evidence he wasn’t lying about the Nazi tattoo. This revelation doesn’t make that evidence not exist.

You have added the idea that he lied about the rape accusation. The claim is that he was blackout drunk, and thus he wouldn’t remember it happening. I find that more plausible than “knew about it but thought they wouldn’t find out.”

I just don’t like that your response to a rape accusation is say “I told you he lied about the Nazi tattoo.” It already sucked that the Nazi tattoo was more important than the domestic abuse accusations. Now it’s supposedly more important than a sexual assault?

We should all be able to agree that the rape accusation is bad without the need to try and figure out how this makes all the Nazi tattoo arguments correct. Your “I told you so” should stop at “I told you something worse was going to come out.”

Supporters.

You can make a case that, in 2007, Obama was not part of the Democratic establishment. I might or might not agree (after all, he was the keynote speaker at the DNC before that), but you can at least make the case.

But then he got elected President. At that point, he became part of the Establishment. And anyone who was still trying to oppose him after that ceased to be part of the Establishment.

In other words, you don’t mind her winning. Platner running was, itself, the ratfuck. The dude never had a chance of winning, because the truth about him was inevitably going to come out. Even before everyone withdrew their endorsements today, he was only tied with Collins, and this news was guaranteed to lose him some amount of support. As will all the other news that will come out, because, as I said, scumbags are always scumbags in multiple ways. If you go from tied to losing support, guess what, that means you lose.

We never had any evidence of that. The by far simplest explanation was that he always knew what the tattoo was, and the next-simplest explanation still had him learning what it was well before he got caught. And no, the tattoo isn’t worse than rape, but before today, it was what we had, and it was already enough to absolutely prove that he was a bad choice. Because there’s an extremely high correlation between people who wear Nazi tattoos and people who do other heinous things. Including rape.

That one. Smapti thinks Democrats are all stupid for not supporting Platner even now. You think everyone was stupid to support him before this revelation came out. Anyone who disagrees with you is in some way delusional.

And, while we’re here, this was also the personal attack you were trying to get away with in the other thread.

And this is why I long ago disavowed membership in any political party.

If your moral guidelines, get a bit flexible for your guy.

I don’t want to hear your rationalizations.
