Guests can’t search in the typical fashion that members can.
I recognise the thread you’re looking for and am doing a search for it right now in another window.

Might it be this thread?

thanks, I would like to Know how Straight Dope works before I pay, It sounds real interesting of all the debates I could get into
thanks

Well, lurk for a while and interact a little. That’s how most of us got started.

I will, but I was just wondering how to get to threads I read in the past so I can respond to the one’s I am interested in
thanks again

Unfortunately, searching is one of the things you can only get when you pay to join. I think within reason, we’re allowed to search for you and post a link, alternatively, you could bookmark the threads in your browser (if you know in advance that you’ll want to come back to them)

Also, I think you can (if you remember the Forum it’s in) keep manually paging back untill you come across the thread (as long as you don’t try and go back several weeks). If it’s a fairly active thread it will be somewhere in the first few pages of the manual forum search.

I just logged out and tried to check threads in MPSIMS. You can modify the forum search at the bottom of the forum page (where it says “Display Options”) and set the parameters in the drop down windows; “Sorted By”, “From The” and “Sort Order” to get to older threads.

Hope that helps for now.

What everyone else said: searching for old posts is a feature of (paid) membership.

For now, email a moderator and we’ll be glad to help you find a few older threads. Also, is you scroll down a forum and then change the page, a discussion from a few days ago may just be on page 2 or 3 or 4. Plus, by scrolling along, you’ll see other discussions that might interest you.

Best suggestion is that you read and “lurk” and see what we do, and you’ll catch on fairly quickly. Be sure to look at the Rules and Etiquette threads at the top of this forum.

Welcome!!

Customer service. What a (supposedly) novel thought!

To the uglyduckling: Welcome, and hope you hang around. We are quite fun at times.

Side Note: I cannot believe that user name hasn’t already been snapped up!

Can a guest subscribe to a thread and then check its progress via the User CP?

I appreciate it and am learning more and more every time I Log on

I am catching how fairly quickly your info helped
thanks
