How many people in the world are 7’3" or taller?
I recently met a guy who is 7’3" (2.21m), and he claims to have ever seen only 4 people who are as tall as he is, or taller . . . and they are all related to him.
(Yes, he’s taller than Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.)
I count about 35 living people over 7’5" on this list.
This is a list of the tallest people, verified by Guinness World Records or other reliable sources.
According to the Guinness World Records, the tallest human in recorded history was Robert Wadlow of the United States (1918–1940), who was 272 cm (8 ft 11 in). Wikipedia has a list of the world’s tallest people, quite a few of whom are living. Probably not exhaustive, but hey, it’s a list:

Global numbers are impossible to find. Anyone that tall is listed in the “over” category of whatever the last number is.
According to the CDC (link-pdf ), only 5% of the US male population is over 6 ’3". Another foot on top of that is likely down to double digits globally or maybe low triple, if you take Darth Panda’s link and assume 7’3" or higher. I would think that every inch over 7’ is probably another standard deviation.
Just for the record, best Yao Ming commercial ever:

Just off the top of my head I can think of a half dozen NBA players 7’3" or taller:
Mark Eaton, Rik Smits, Manute Bol, Avydas Sabonis, Shawn Bradley, Zydrunas Ilgausakas
How could I forget Yao?
I see what you did there (and you probably didn’t even know you did).

Yes, according to this site
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is 7’ 2".
(which makes your friend taller than Roger Murdock too).

The “gi, yo-gi” guy at the end would be Yogi Berra?
Yes, although I’m sure a lot of the younger viewers had no clue who he was.
MacCat:
That’s him.
Half the lies they tell about him aren’t true.

Or as Yogi himself might put it, “90 per cent of the time, you can’t believe half those things.”
And Gaul was decimated, quartered into three halves.
