Just curious about something that I can’t find anywhere. Who got the most votes from people who voted on election day? Not counting early voters or absentee . Does anyone out there know?
I don’t know the actual numbers, but it’s my understanding that Clinton had a pretty good lead among early voters, and still lost in total, so that certainly suggests that Trump won the same-day voters.
I’d be surprised if such statistics exist, but you never know. The states would have to go out of their way to keep track of this, and I’m not sure there would be a purpose in doing so.
FWIW,the biggest exit poll (a joint effort of ABC News, the Associated Press, CBS News, CNN, Fox News and NBC News) indicates that people who chose a candidate “in the last few days” broke for Trump by 46% to 44% for Clinton.
However, people who said they chose in the last week also went for Trump by 50% to 38%, while people who said they chose in October went for Trump by 51% to 37%. You have to go all the way back to people who say they settled on a candidate “before September” before you find a majority of voters saying they picked Clinton.
Of course, since the actual results fell within the margin of error for all of the “final” polls, I’m not sure how reliable these numbers are. But I think it’s reasonable to say that voters who made up their mind later went for Trump.
Seems like someone could easily do that, but it would be a tiresome procedure. Just take the early votes and absentee votes, subtract from the totals, and move on to the next. Repeat, fifty times.
