Pepsi One vs. Diet Pepsi?

I know, old thread and all, but Pepsi Max is in the US, but apparently a different formulation than in the UK. IIRC it contains ginseng and more caffeine, plus Ace K and Aspartame.

Only if it’s done by the full serving. More than one beverage marketing disaster has tripped over the difference between a sip and a bottle.

So they’re lying when they put “Sweetened with Splenda” on the package?

(Actually, it appears that they useboth.)

You are wrong to be upset with PepsiCo. 9or Coke, 7-upm etc. – the following applies to all of them.)

PepsiCo does NOT actually manufacture any of these drinks.* They own the formulas, rights to the names, etc., but they sell territories to local bottlers who actually produce & distribute the beverages. They purchase some of the ingredients (flavorings) from PepsiCo or PepsiCo-approved suppliers, and purchase some (especially sweetener) from other suppliers. And the major ingredient – water – is obtained from local sources.

PepsiCo very rarely discontinues any flavor completely. Instead, the local bottler decides to drop a flavor, usually because it isn’t selling, and he believes a different flavor will sell more. That’s why flavors that are ‘discontinued’ in your area may be still available in other parts of the country. So if your favorite isn’t available, blame your local bottler, not PepsiCo. (And the local bottler will blame the soda buyers in the area, who didn’t buy that flavor.)

PepsiCo has recipes for Pepsi made with HFCS (corn sugar), cane sugar, beet sugar, etc. A local bottler can use any of those sweeteners, just by adjusting the recipe. They usually go with whichever one is cheaper. In most of the US recently, this is generally the corn sugar. In southern states & Mexico/Central America, it can often be cane sugar. And in northern midwest states, during part of the year, it can be beet sugar. And the sweetener used can change from week to week, at the same local bottler, depending on current supply & price. So statements like “All Mexican Pepsi is made with cane sugar” are unlikely to be accurate, especially over any length of time.

*Except for some areas, where the local bottler is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the parent company.

Indeed. A critical point is that the subject is allowed as long as they like (or in this case, to sample each of A,B and X as many times as they desire), before making a choice. So no tiny cups with a sip in. Full bottles, and no time pressure.

Yeah, according to Pepsi’s official site, Pepsi One is sweetened by both Splenda (sucralose) and Ace-K. Still, ruthiefran’s post seemed to indicate it is sweetened with only Splenda with no other sweetener, and that’s not accurate.
