I found your article on perfect pitch interesting. I have perfect pitch, and I think the article was not completely accurate. While perfect pitch is sometimes an advantage, I go almost insane when I hear someone singing off-key. Sure, it doesn’t help that I’m a control freak, but I’m sure that most people with perfect pitch would agree. Also, you mentioned that the perfect pitch is manipulated with age. Is that definitely true? If it is, I really WILL go insane!
A real, live, perfect pitch specimen! How old were you when you found out you have perfect pitch? Do you play an instrument?
Cecil’s column is “What is perfect pitch, and what good is it? (08-Feb-1991)”
I found out that I had perfect pitch when I was in the middle of sixth grade- probably around March or April 1998 (yes, I’m in eighth grade now. I’m young but smart!). I play piano (not extremely well, but simple things) by ear and I used to take lessons but my teacher [luckily] moved away. I play a few chords on the guitar, and I used to play clarinet. I guess I’m multitalented!
