Outside of a real physics discussion, the only acceptable use of the word Quantum is as a proper noun, specifically referring to Scott Bakula playing Captain Jonathon Archer of the NX-01 Enterprise.

Actually, it’s perfectly correct to ask the lunchlady for a “quantum of lentil and bacon soup -heavy on the cheese.” There’s also the ever popular television show “Quantum Leap.” It’d be hard to talk about that dog without tossing in a quantum or two.
