Personal Voice Recorders

My father would like a voice recorder to take short notes to himself on for christmas, and I’m having trouble finding good reviews of products to choose from. I’m probably not looking to spend more than $70 or so on one, so I doubt I’d get a top of the line anything.

Features desired, in order of importance:

  1. Playback quality/volume. He’s getting hard of hearing.
  2. Easy of use. He gets confused/agitated by overly technical things with buttons with little tiny labels that he can’t read without his glasses.
  3. recording time. I’d think that 10 minutes would be a good minimum.
  4. Search features would be cool, or a way to keep your messages separate.
  5. It’d be really nice, for reasons that I’d not like to get into, if it were to be fairly waterproof. I realize that waterproof isn’t a feature usually looked for in a voice recorder, so it’s not a deal-breaker.

As for unimportant things, it could be digital or tape-based, and pretty much any size up to what would fit into a normal jacket pocket.

Any suggestions?
