PETA: Taking 'Too Far' Even Further

This is hardly anything new or shocking from the PETA camp. They’ve made comparisons to the holocuast and the meat industry for years. I know I should be offended but I just can’t bring myself to care what PETA has to say.

Marc

I wonder how PETA can possibly follow this little stunt up. How can they possibly stir up more controversy? Perhaps next year they’ll just run around and stab people in the face while screaming satanic chants and spreading confetti.

It’s that same old stuff, friends. PETA’s audience is the already converted and the weak minded. There is no point to arguing with them. As someone said around here recently, it’s like trying to teach pigs to whistle; it just wastes your time and annoys the pigs. Accept that there is a fair number of nut cases who know how to set up a web site.

Maybe PETA would understand the idiocy of this campaign if we tried to compare the cutting and consumption of ancient redwood trees to the harvesting of corn as the same abomination.

To ShoNuff, Avalonian, and probably a number of other since at least two misunderstood what I was attempting to say.

When I invoked Machiavelli, I was NOT saying that since the point of PETA’s ad was to stir up controversy and they succeeded, the ends justify the means. I can understand how you got that though, and I apologize for the miscommunication.

What I meant was that since there is a difference between the Holocaust and ground beef (i.e. mass murder vs. consumption) that one difference alone negates any and all similarities that there might be between the two. In this respect, the ends (food on my table) do justify the means (the killing of animals).

Yep.

Did you see the frame where they compare the Jewish (I assume) kids at the fence with the pen full of piglets? How culturally sensitive was that.

I also recall several years ago reading in the paper (Salt Lake Tribune, on a Sunday in the fall of 2000, I cut it out, then lost it) an interview with a PETA nutjob, where he says that, after they’ve liberated al the animals, they’re going for the plants. Great, a bunch of naked breatharians.

I’m still amused at a thread that was Godwined before the OP was written.

So, in effect, PETA has “Jumped the shark”!

Sure as hell aren’t feasting on it, y’know?

I thought this was going to be about how PETA wanted Wisconsin to name beer as the state drink instead of milk (an earlier campaign of “beer instead of milk” aimed at college students got them in hot water with MADD and other groups), but I’m rather shocked that they did something even stupider.

Y’know, I think the idea of advocating for abused animals is a pretty noble idea. I’d be the kind of person who would be sympathetic to them, if only they weren’t total assholes. They are pretty much the left wing’s version of Ann Coulter, so far out of whack that they wind up doing more to help the opposition than they do to bolster their own cause. And to be honest, I wonder if that’s their actual goal, in a Naderite sort of way.

Drat, you have figured out our evil Republican plan to use PETA to make liberals look stupid and insensitive. Curse you for foiling our vast right wing conspiracy, curse I say.

For heaven’s sake, they want to push vegetarianism by comparing meat-eating to the Holocaust.

Hitler was a vegetarian. What are they, nuts?

I answer my own question. Not necessarily nuts, just morally blind attention whores. Also insulting to the memory of six million wasted lives.

I wonder if they realize how stupid they look. Or care.

Regards,
Shodan

Your view seems to escape the other posters. One is not triviaizing humans when one belives animals should be treated with the same compassion as humans.

Perhaps Hitler was justified in his actions because after all we’re just a bunch of shaved monkeys. He was just doing what any smarter farmer might do.

meh, stupid peta.

No one connects this to the letter sent to Arafat by PETA asking him to stop using “suicide donkeys”? It was disgusting.

Here’s a link (there are many out there):

PETA have shot themselves in the foot - this is awful.
Compassion in World Farming - link here - puts the case for animals less hysterically:

True. While I’m quite sure it is not PETA’s intent to belittle the tragedy of the Holocaust, that is the inevitable perception from those who do not share the same fundamental assumption of equality for animals and humans. PETA’s most basic failure is presuming that their raison d’etre is inherently correct and therefore ignoring the real debate in favor of sensationalism.

Even if they’re right about the treatment of animals, they continually set themselves up for failure by their own ignorance of cultural reality.

Um, Shodan, the Hitler was a veggie thing is an Urban Legend. From what I understand, he had to stay away from eating a lot of meat because he suffered from giggle flatulence.

Hehehehehe…

That is the first I have heard of PETA (Pratts Employing Tasteless Advertising ?).

  1. this ad degrading to people who suffered under the Nazi’s
  2. chickens and cows taste yummy anyway
