Fuck You Peta!!!!!!!!

What the hell is this???

I am so tired of PETA. I’m not the greatest Jew, but I find the Holocaust on your Plate campaign disgusting and offensive. I agree that the treatment of animals can be horrific and disgusting in some slaughter houses etc, but comparing it to The Holocaust is UNACCEPTABLE!!! Who the fuck do they think they are comparing people who are part of the meat industries to nazis? Nazis killed almost indiscriminately. They killed at times for fun and sport. The cruelty of concentration camps and nazi Germany is far, far worse than anything that goes on at a slaughter house. I’m not saying that animals deserve cruelty or abuse, but saying that cows being led to the slaughter is just as bad as millions of Jews dying in death camps is offensive to the people who died, and their families.

Peta goes on and on about how people and animals should be equal etc, yet freaks out at the idea of people eating meat MUCH LIKE MANY OTHER ANIMALS DO!!! I saw this rep from Peta in an interview on the National Geographic channel (I’m too pissed for a cite right now, so you’ll have to either take my word for it, or research it for yourself), and he went on and on about equality between people and animals, and how we shared the earth and no one was above anyone else. When the interviewer asked him why it was wrong for people to eat animals when other animals do it, the Peta rep said something to the effect of “We need to rise above that kind of behavior.” So, in rising above that kind of behavior, in what way are we being equal to animals? The entire interview was filled with shit like that.

I’m sorry if I’ve offended anyone in this post, but it’s just how I feel. Feel free to flame me, but I had to get all that anger out.

Hey I’m going to have to agree with you. I was a memeber of the PETA for a while and then I became disgusted with the fanaticalness in whcih the got thier messages across. I’m a firm beliver in not buying a fur coat but I don’t think that there is a need to attack some perosn because they are wearing one. That’s thier business.

Comparing the Holocaust to killing for food is unacceptible no matter how tortured the animal is.

PETA is just someone’s outlet for thier anger. IF you want to stop curely to animals become a vegan and use products with that rabbit on it.

I work in a research lab, so I’ve got more than enough reasons already to hate PETA. The holocaust campaign is disgusting, but frankly not at all surprising. These are people who hound doctors and scientists, threaten their families, and every once in a while manage to drum researchers out of the business. And yet I have a hard time believing they’d turn down life-saving medicines or procedures for their children, or themselves, that are the direct result of the kind of research that we do. I don’t know if that makes them hypocrites, or just delusional. I know a lot of them have good intentions, but christ, talk about fucked up priorities!

PETA: Where only women are treated like meat.

Yes, despite the fact that i support some of PETA’s animal rights campaigns (and am a vegetarian myself), i have to agree with you here. I was very depressed when they decided that, in order to protest against cruelty to animals, they felt it necessary to degrade women. One form of oppression should not be used as a vehicle for opposing another.

Just out of curiosity, how many concentration camp victims did the Nazis eat? Did they really eat enough of them that there can be a comparison between concentration camps and food-processing plants (slaughterhouses)?

belladonna - I am of the opinion that people who harass and threaten researchers who have to experiment on animals and try to force them out of business should be arrested for as long as it takes to get their details whereupon they will be put on a blacklist for all medical treatment until they either die or repent for the eregious sin of standing in the way of legitimate scientific progress.

I’d be interested to see just how fucking committed they are to this premise when the shit hits the fans just above their heads.

Ben (who owes his sanity to various medical treatments which were perfected on animals)

I am also utterly disgusted by this latest ploy for public attention. They have no shame.

Peta jumped the shark awhile ago.

Forgot to mention, good point.

PETA irks me.

I can understand being against animal cruelty, but when a friend of mine who is a PETA member tells me I shouldn’t feed my dog meat, or that all medical testing is “evil beyond belief”, I get pissed off.
First, it’s a dog. They eat meat as part of their diets even when not domesticated.
As for medical testing…what scientists have learned from animals has kept me alive. I’m diabetic and without the research on insulin, I would have died when I was a teenager.
There’s a fine line between faith in a cause and being a gibbering moron blind to reason and fact.

How have they done that? Just curious.

[rant about fanatics in general]The problem with being an idealouge is that your beliefs become more important than people; people actually get in the way of your ideas. And in the idealouge’s mind, when there is a contest between flesh and blood people and an idea, the people lose. That’s how a dictator can justify his people starving to death in the name of an idea–the idea is more important than the people. [/rant about fanatics in general]

That’s what I think has happened to PETA, or maybe that’s the way they’ve always been.

I knew they were fanatics years ago when I saw one of them on a talk show, and when given the scenario of being on a desert island with nothing to eat but an animal, she swore upside down and backwards that she would rather starve herself to death than kill the animal for food.

Ya right.

Rilchiam, I put “I’d rather go naked than wear fur” into google and got 715 hits!

PETA for me is a lot like the NRA. If PETA was about preventing people from abusing animals (like the people that torture pets), I’d support them. Heck, I’d even support a ban on cosmetic testing on animals. But I love my meat and leather shoes and also highly appreciate the advances made by medical testing on animals.

As for the NRA, I’d support their mission of promoting safe and responsible handling of firearms and even to a point the right of people to own guns to defend themselves. But when they start talking about how anyone (regardless of mental state or criminal record) should be able to just walk into a store and buy an M-16 on the spot, that’s where I draw the line.

BTW, I think the “degrading women” PETA blast refers to their practice of having naked women cage themselves while painted in tiger stripes or something as a form of protest. Have you ever seen a male PETA member do such a thing?

Ah. I remember that campaign. But, not only was PETA being hypocritical, but so were some of the models, who had previously worn fur in photo shoots and runway shows. Didn’t seem to bother them when they got paid for it.

D’oh! Preview is my friend.

I meant the campaign King Rat mentioned. Elwood, no, I hadn’t heard of that. I wouldn’t mind seeing some male PETA members like that, though…

The NRA has not ever (to my knowledge) supported such a policy.

PETA are a buncha tools.

Getting back to the ad that started this thread… I read an article recently (can’t cite it) arguing that anti-semitism was becoming (more) acceptable in the U.S. The author asked: if PETA had produced an ad comparing Palestinians currently dying in Israel to animals dying in a slaughterhouse, would anyone have published it?

Fifteen Iguana

I don’t think comparing animals dying in a slaughterhouse to ANY tragic event of human suffering and murder is acceptable. I think PETA has gone too far with the Holocaust on your Plate campaign. Period.

And on the subject of that PETA member who swore up and down that she wouldn’t eat an animal if she was stranded on a deserted island, all I have to say to that is, does she think the Donner Party ate their pets, friends, and loved ones because they liked the taste of meat?

As PETA would put it: Do you know how offensive that term is to sharks? Would you say “jumped the n------r?”

Fran Drescher on her furcoat: It’s a * fake * fur. And you wouldn’t believe what I had to fake in order to get it.
