...Peter Jackson on Weinstein: "they were a nightmare to work with" "avoid them at all costs"

They weren’t as directly affected??

Bad Santa director Terry Zwigoff has now stated that he would bring up Sorvino for the Lauren Graham role and Weinstein would hang up on him. I wonder if that can be litigatable?

Looking at Google and Kidman specifically , she hasn’t done a Miramax film since 2003 and spoke out in October: Nicole Kidman - Miramax

Nothing.

How can that be when we now have very clear examples of women being effectively blacklisted for not playing with Harvey?

Doesn’t mean he harassed every single female he worked with.

Are you trying to slut-shame Nichole Kidman?

Even if some women did give in to him, that doesn’t make them any less victims.

Dude, what’s your plan? Confront and shame Nicole Kidman or other top tier women for not speaking out? How’s that gonna work for you?

Work for me? Top tier women?

Fwiw, I spoke about Kidman in post #42 - she hasn’t worked with Miramax for 14 years.

This happened because victims chose not to speak out. This wasn’t child abuse it was adults, a lot of people made choices and a lot more people suffered as a result.

That’s not to take the blame away from the perpetrator, but he would still be operating now - today - but for a heavily funded NYT investigation.

You’re right. Women who didn’t speak up suck.:confused:

…we’ve had this conversation before. Its amazing you’ve completely forgotten everything you’ve been told and you’ve gone back to the same victim-blaming-nonsense that you came out with last time. People came out before the NYT story. They not only were not believed: they were attacked and their careers damaged or destroyed. You’ve been told this. There were investigations by the police. Audio tapes were made where Weinstein admitted guilt and the DA decided not to prosecute. Victims did speak out.

This did not happen because victims chose “not to speak out”. This happened because Weinstein is an evil piece of shit who harassed, abused and assaulted women then did everything in his power to silence them when he was done. He had the power to destroy careers and the power to destroy lives and this thread shows exactly how he did it. Mira Sorvino had an inkling that maybe something was going on: but it wasn’t until Peter Jackson spoke out that she actually knew what Weinstein and his enablers were doing. And they didn’t just fear for their careers, they feared for their lives. Annabella Sciorra slept with a baseball bat next to her bed for 20 years because of what Weinstein did to her.

I’ve been listening through the Rialto Report podcast series about the New York porn scene in the Seventies, and one thing surprising thing keeps coming up over and over - that the casting couch was only a thing in “legitimate” theater and films, that nobody had to have sex with anyone to get a job where they would actually be having sex on screen. Hyapatia Lee went to New York trying to make it on Broadway with a bundle of rave reviews and references from local and regional theater from her hometown of Indianapolis like any other hopeful, and kept getting told there was no way she could get a job or an agent unless she was willing to have sex with them. Porn directors and agents, on the other hand, were total professionals to her. She figured if she was going to have to fuck to act, she was damn well going to be paid for it.

Elaine May directed the biggest flop in film history up to that point, Ishtar, and never directed again.

Rennie Harlan directed an even bigger flop, * Cutthroat Island* – a film that led to the demise of an entire studio. He was back directing the next year (it flopped, too). If you assume he got that gig before the flop, he was back again three years later.

Michael Cimino was back directing 5 years after * Heaven’s Gate*

Robert Altman directed many films that lost money or just broke even. He kept getting work because he had a big hit with MASH.

One flop by a woman director and her career is over. But a male director, even with bigger flops, gets a second chance.

Peter Jackson probably didn’t feel safe speaking out until now.

This Weinstein must have been the Kim Jong Zero of Hollywood.

Is there any chance any of this women can sue Weinstein or Miramax for monetary damages as a result of being black balled?

I have worked with many managers like that and yes I at some point I have made every mistake that I have listed and in the right circumstance, putting someone on the towards the edge of their comfort zone can work wonders.

When I was training people, I would train them to deal with the worst case scenario so it was much easier for the normal day to day routine

Obviously, it is better to learn from the mistakes of other people but real life experience is the often the best teacher.

Thanks for the input

Peter Jackson didn’t have any reason to doubt Weinstein until recently. From his rebuttal today to Weinstein’s defensive comments:

*“because we had been warned off Ashley and Mira by Miramax, and we were naive enough to assume we’d been told the truth, Fran and I did not raise their names in New Line casting conversations”.

As to why he has only come forward now, Jackson said he was prompted by reading about the sexual misconduct allegations being made against Harvey Weinstein and comments by both Sorvino and Judd, who felt they had been blacklisted by Miramax after rejecting Harvey’s sexual advances.*
