Peter Principle

In my post-college career, I’ve gotten raises/promotions on a regular basis.

In job #1, I started at 80% of what I should have asked for. After 11 years, my salary was just short of twice of what I started at.

In job #2, I started at 28% more than what I last made at job #1. I got one raise there of 6%.

In job #3, I started at 23% more than what I last made at job #2. I’ve gotten 2 raises, one for 4.6%, and one for 8%.

I now make almost 250% more than what I started at. I’m starting to feel a little anxious, like I’m approaching the level of my own incompetence (as per the Peter Principle), with the added responsibility that my higher salary level requires.

Does anyone here get the feeling that they too are approaching this level?

Pete and I are getting to know one another. I’ve gotten close to the top of my field; at least for those without a degree. I need to go back to school and finish. That, or change fields.
