Actually, he’s got to better than even par if he wants to win!
What’s the point of a fairway bunker that is large and shallow in a pro tournament?
A pro tournament only happens one week a year. (for most courses)
Aye, true. Augusta isn’t a bunker hazard sort of course anyway I suppose.
I see a lot complaints about golf course not being tough enough for the pros. The other 51 weeks, the course has to be used by the membership (or public).
I would hate to belong to a course that has deep bunkers, high rough, narrow fairways and greens stimping at 13.
Yes, long rough can be cut down after the pros leave, but it takes time to cultivate the rough and you sure can’t mow it down in one pass or you will damage the turf.
A 4 to 7 stroke lead in the span of 5 minutes.
Don’t think Sunday is going to be anything other than a victory lap at this point.
Holy shit, I think my nerves were about 10x what Spieth’s were on the 3rd shot on 18. But I think it’s much better for him to be playing with Rose rather than Phil tomorrow. Playing with Phil on Sunday can put a lot of bad thoughts in your head.
Very impressed by young Jordan Splleeitth.
Amazing that the stat of nobody shooting four rounds under 70 remains intact after 80 years of the Masters. It sure looked like a goner before Spieth played 17.
Looks like Tiger and Rory will play together tomorrow. Maybe they can push each other, and be there if Spieth falters. But honestly, I’m rooting for Phil to win.
I don’t hate any of the four contenders, so any outcome would be acceptable, but I’m curious about Tiger’s future plans. He’s ranked 111th in the world, needing 64th to qualify for the WGC-Match Play in three weeks. My very rough estimate is that a 3rd-place finish tomorrow would move him up comfortably to near 50th, while a 4th-place finish would be borderline.
But I don’t totally understand the rankings. Next up on Tour are the Heritage then Zurich, neither of which has seen action from Tiger this century.
That was a big putt that Spieth made on 18. He can regroup tonight after playing hole 17 very badly.
Looks like good weather tomorrow.
Rory vs Tiger should make a good side show. Nike might even make a commercial about it.
I have seen estimates that he needs a Tie 3rd minimum to make the Top 65. Top 65 because Luke Donald is definitely not playing because of his brother’s wedding.
Tiger is not playing Hilton Head and he is headed to China later this month, if I recall correctly.
Well, I’m definitely routing for Spieth. Don’t care much for Phil. Justin Rose is a serious contender, so I’m seeing him as the guy to beat. Hoffman’s play was all over the map today, so I’d be surprised if he’s much of a factor tomorrow. Rory could pull of a miracle, but that would be one hell of a miracle. I honestly don’t think Tiger has a chance.
There are some low scores among the early starters. Spieth needs to be under par today because I think either Rose or Mickelson shoots 67 or better today.
Well, he starts out strong with a birdie, but so does Rose.
Big miss by Rory on 2. That should’ve been a birdie.
Spieth is holding his own. Tiger isn’t even on the leader board, and I’ve lost track of what he’s doing. Phil is hanging in there.
I think Rose still has a decent chance of winning. He’s got the experience advantage, which counts for a lot on Sunday. But Spieth is doing very well.
About what I expected from Tiger today. He knew he had to shoot a 62 to have any chance of winning, and his game, while much better than I expected, is still too shaky to pull off the risky shots required.
Looks like Spieth will have to have his appendix burst to lose today. A great, great talent.
I’m normally a technophile, but I have to say that HDTV is a mixed bag when it comes to Masters coverage. The background when players were on the green used to just be a blur; now we get wonderful closeups of all the cottage cheese legs on their camp stools.
A small trade-off to see the beauty of Augusta.
Spieth is making putts like crazy again.
Rory has the talent to be as dominant as Tiger was. We’ll have to see about Speith. He’s playing fantastic now, but golf is a fickle game and he could lose it all at some point and go the way of a Badely or Garcia-- still good players, but not top notch.
God, I absolutely LOVE the Masters!!
My favorite golf tournament by far.
