So let’s say that you’ve managed to smash your thumb beyond repair and have to have it amputated. Your doctor decides to amputate one of your toes (I confess that I’m not sure what toe they use for this) and attach it where your thumb used to be. Would you experience phantom limb pain or would you actually feel it in your “thumb?”
Your body doesn’t know that the thing on your hand used to be on your foot - you’ve experienced two distinct events - loss of a toe, and weird injury/modification of the hand.
You might experience phantom pain from the loss of the toe. You might experience all manner of strange sensations from the disturbance to the nerves in your hand, but I don’t think you’ll experience any crossed sensations, except those you might experience anyway*, or psychological ones.
*I found a weird skin tag thing between my toes and tore it off. For several days afterward, the site was sore, but so was the corresponding site on my hand. Apparently this isn’t uncommon.
