I remember reading in billboard about 6 songs that would have been number one if they were released. I can only recall 5 off the list though. Any ideas what the last one stated was
The ones I recall were:
Into The Groove - Madonna
More than a Woman - BeeGees
Pinball Wizard - Elton John
Stairway to Heaven - Led Zepplin
I’ll be There For You - ( I forget the name of the group but it was the theme from friends)
[this was obviously before Billboard changed its mind about letting unrelased singles chart. Songs don’t have to be singles to chart now]
“I’ll be there for you” is indeed by the Rembrandts. FYI, it DID come out on single in The Netherlands, and was a top-10 hit. “Into the Groove” was a number 1 single hit in Holland in 1985. Sure it wasn’t released as a single in the US ? They used it here to promote the best movie of all time: Desperately Seeking Susan.
Just kidding. Although it was better than Who’s that Girl ?
I’m feeling ill now. I’m going to lie down for a while.
Into the Groove was never released as a single, because at the time Angel was climbing up the charts and it was a weak song. The record company didn’t want to do damage to it. Result: Angel went to #5Into the Groove not released.
A similar thing happend with Material Girl. It only went to #2. It was released and Crazy For You interfered somewhat with it. So it was deemed best not to try it again. Though in the latter case it wasn’t a direct competition
