My ex-husband bought estrogen pills from an outfit in (I believe) Vanatau without a prescription. Normally, that would be required. There were never any problems, other than my insistence that it was stupid to undergo hormone therapy without evaluation by a physician and possibly a therapist.
As it turned out, she’s transitioning, so it worked out. But I still thought it was fucking stupid, because it was illegal.
Yeah, that’s the way a lot of people get around the problem. Go to a doctor who will give them what they want. Though most you at least have to fake the symptoms…
Not to buy them, but they can be confiscated at the border. Even though it is legal to buy them in the other country wiithout a perscription, it isn’t legal to bring perscription drugs into the US without proof of one.
There is (or was) an under-the-counter medicine that contains tincture of codeine available in Canada. I had a friend mail me some; I still don’t know why the USPS smelled a rat but they did. The postmaster called me and I knew immediately what was up; I called my attorney, who laughed himself sick, and we went to the PO together. We were met by the postmaster and a representative from the local city police; the feds had no interest, I was told, because the enormity of the crime just didn’t rise to their level. (There were only about twenty pills involved) The postmaster and the local cop, who was a real bozo, knew the pills didn’t contain cocaine, but they were baffled as to what they did contain. I told them, my attorney frowned at them, they asked me to please don’t do that no more and that was the end of it. All this took place in a small town in South Dakota; everyone knew everyone and my attorney couldn’t resist laughing about it with his partner, the story got out, and for a little while, I was known as the local drug kingpin.
