Pharmacist refuses to fill prescription for abortion pill on moral grounds

No, but they ARE radically anti-gay. Look at how the US bishops tried to conflate pedophilia with gayness. And don’t wave Dignity. The Church takes no notice of them. THe RCC’s official position is that it’s OK to be gay, just not to, you know, love another man or have sex. Npot very satisfactory to me.

And where am I accusing you, Jodi, Jarbaby or any of the Christian Dopers of sharing anti-gay beliefs? The facts remain is that most Christian sects regard gay relationships as inherently sinful. I am not accusing you of sharing their beliefs–but to say they are merely a noisy minority is to ignore their hold on the key decisionmakers of our nation, including Dubya, who invokes fundie language to preserve “the sanctity of marriage.” Fundies have the upper hand in this debate so far.

I missed your post with the US census and CUNY figures–I stand corrected (and envious of your Googling skills).

I have no wish to be an asshole, but neither will I be silent or passive in the face of bigotry.

What you fail to realize that you have nothing to lose in this discussion. If gay rights collapse in theis country, you are unaffected. I, however, have my entire future at stake. You might understand why I’m vocal.

Accusing you of " Slamming all Christians" is NOT the same as

Accusing of you of saying that “all Christians have the “same” beliefs”

Nice try, though.

Sure it is. I wasn’t even addressing whether the statements were true or not, but I guess you missed that. I was saying that a statement like “Mexicans are lazy”, which allows for differences in laziness, paints a broad stroke like “Christians are sheep”, allowing for differences.

I haven’t used the word “crazy”.

I haven’t used the word “stupid”.

I used your phrases “incapable of rationale thought” and “incapable of indepependent thinking”

(my emphasis)

Wow so ALL theists DO think magically? EACH AND EVERYONE?

Bricker thinks “magically”.
tomndebb thinks “magically”
RTFirely thinks “magically”
Jodi thinks “magically”.

Damn, the irony is delicious.

Howzabout I make this easy for you. Howzabout we replace the comments about sheep and rational/independent thought with the following statement:

gobear has stated that ALL theists (including Christians) “think magically”?

(“magically”, of course, being an adverb, describing the way that theists think about things)

You DO stand by that statement, correct?

Absolutely. What else is prayer but magic? If you believe that there is a supernatural being with whom you can bargain to affect the workings of the universe, then you’re engaging in magical thinking.

And yet you have Bill Donohoe speaking in terms of civil unions as an acceptable compromise.

Look, the Vatican says all abortion is wrong, too, but a hell of a lot of Catholics don’t fully buy into that idea. While the question of how far one can go in dissenting from Rome’s official position and still be deemed a good Catholic is an interesting theological question, there is little doubt that such dissent in these types of areas are quite common.

Nowhere. But of course, I didn’t accuse of you any such thing.

What I did accuse you of is slurring the good name of millions of decent Christians by trying to associate them with the tinfoil-hat sects in their midst.

The two are not mutually exclusive. You can stand up for a more inclusive Christian church without simultaneously suggesting that most Christians are of the fundamentalist, knuckle-dragging troglodyte variety.

Being vocal is one thing. Being an asshole is another. Martin Luther King, Jr. was vocal without being an asshole. You might take a moment to learn from his example.
