When I get a prescription filled at a pharmacy, no matter what it is, no matter how long it’s been sitting on their shelf, it comes with an expiration date one year to the day from when it was put in the bottle. Actually, I’ve even seen non-drugs like syringes with the 1-year date.
Why is this? Does it have any relevance to the medication at all? How can I really know when a medication is going to go bad?
Also: Am I allowed to request the pharmacist tell me the expiration date labelled on the bulk package by the manufacturer (I’m assuming there is one)?
P.S. I’m hoping this has not been answered already. I’ve tried to SDMB search several times, but the hamsters are not cooperating.
