Phil Hellmuth Jr is coming to town

He’s here this Thursday plugging his book “Play Poker Like The Pros.” He’s a Madison native (I had no idea). In previous poker threads those who’ve expressed an opinion seem to agree with me that he’s a bit of a jackass.

Anyone else seen him in a lecture-type setting? Is it worth my time to go see him? Anybody got any questions they’d like me to ask him if I get the chance? Anybody want me to pick them up an autographed copy?

Otto you and I may be the only ones on the board who would go to see Phil Hellumth at a book signing, but I am jealous. He comes off as a bit of a jackass, but I’m not sure that isn’t intentional. So many top players (nods to Lederer and Andy Bloch) have no emotional response at all. I find any player who expresses a personality refreshing.

I have met Andy Bloch a few times and he has some interesting things to say. I would certainly thing a lecture would be interesting. Phil like most poker players is an extraordinarily bright guy with a lot of insight. Let me know how it is if you go.

He’s supposed to be a very interesting speaker. I’d go to see him. You’ll definitely learn somthing.

He’s kind of like the John MacEnroe of poker. He loses his temper at the table and acts like a prick. I can’t say that I haven’t done the same thing.

OK, I think I’ll go. How long ago was the last World Series of Poker when he got his head shaved? I wonder how grown out his hair will be.

Fruitbat ; bite your tongue!! There are at least 10 dopesters that I know of (Mr. Maureen not counted) that are poker afficionados.

Otto ; you lucky man, go and have a great time. Find out, if you can, why he prefers hold 'em? He’s talented…I’d think he would clean up on a game that depends less on luck than hold em.

I had no idea. I live in DC and can’t scare together a poker game to save my life. I was starting to think I was the only one who watched the World Poker Tour and loved to play. Well I am looking forward to future threads in that case.

IIRC, he got his head shaved at the '02 WSOP and they’ve already had the '03 WSOP. I believe Hellmuth won this year’s.
