Philippines rebranding gets off to a rocky start

Last week, the Department of Tourism here in the Philippines decided to drop their (highly successful) slogan “It’s More Fun in the Philippines” in favor of a new slogan “Love the Philippines” complete with a slickly-produced video. The parody slogans were almost immediate, like “Leave the Philippines” and “Rob the Philippines”. Then it turns out that Cyprus launched their “Love Cyprus” campaign a couple of years ago. Now it’s been revealed that the ad agency hired to create that slick video used foreign stock footage. And by “foreign” I mean the footage wasn’t even shot in the Philippines but other countries like Thailand, Indonesia, and Dubai (?!). The international press has picked up the story, so I guess the new ad campaign has made an impression.

Hard to fathom the laziness and carelessness behind using foreign footage for a country’s promotional video.

The RFK Jr. for President campaign had to take down a photo after viewers noticed that it apparently was taken in Russia.

Duterte was a murderous piece of shit, and handing the place back over to a Marcos is not much of an improvement IMO. Are they still caning people for minor offenses? If I’m visiting that part of the world, there’s a ton of other places I’d rather visit than the Philippines.

If RFK wants to post where his support comes from, why is that a big deal?

Caning? That’s Singapore. Here, incarcerated foreigners probably get better treatment than the locals.

Band name.

When ‘Let’s Make A Deal’ gives away trips to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, they features pictures of Heavenly Valley, Nevada. Also pretty fucking lazy.

Then again, they likely gave the lowest bid for the job.

Must have used this ad agency:
