What IS it with the spam/phishing texts I’ve been getting that are just random links to gawd-knows-what? The links are never words, just something that looks like a TinyURL link, and it always goes to 20 or so phone numbers, usually consecutive but not always. The last contact on the list is always an email, not a phone number, and that’s the one I block (not that it does any good).
I’ve never clicked the link - not that brave - but I’m kind of curious as to the point of these, and does anyone ever actually get taken by them? They must, I guess, or it wouldn’t keep happening.
I have been getting these a lot lately. I do not even open them - just delete them from the preview screen. I suspect the perpetrators can tell if the text has been opened, indicating there is a live person at that number (and now making that phone number more valuable for them to sell).
Yes, they must work enuf of the time to make the endeavor worthwhile, for someone.
There’s always someone who will click on any text they get no matter how sketchy/random/unknown it looks. Or they get so many (legitimate) texts that they automatically click on it.
I got one and my mother got three in the same day accompanied by the words “Free Msg: Your March bill has been paid.” As with your example, it was sent to like 20 numbers at once.
