My phone’s older than the OP’s. It’s a samsung galaxy A6 (2018).
(Maybe I was just lucky !)
He’s got two cases that are supposed to fit. My suggestion is that he go to the phone case mart and ask someone to help him, not that he try to buy a third.
And that was what? Usually it’s not the same as the official name. For example, my OnePlus 12 is a CPH2583.
On both my phone (Pixel) & my work phone (iphone) the model name is in plain English, what we would expect it to be called.
Interesting–pretty sure no phone I’ve owned has (happened to, apparently) be one like that! So I guess my original post should say “Sometimes” instead of “Usually” ![]()
There’s a model name, and a model number, and they can both refer to what model of phone it is, just in a different format.
When I go into the settings of my personal iPhone, in the “About” section, it says…
Model Name
iPhone 16 Pro Max
Model Number
MYW43LL/A
The silicone cases do have a little stretch to them to provide a snug fit especially when new. You usually have to put a couple adjacent corners in first then end up pushing the last corners and the case together with some force.
They do, otherwise they’d fall off your phone.
I have a Samsung Android. A different model than the OP, but we might get a more useful example from my phone’s info page than some other brand
My Settings >>About phone page says
- Product name: Galaxy S24
Model name: SM-S921U
Serial number: RFCX90[redacted]
Then goes on about installed SIMs, eSIMS, phone numbers, IMEIs, etc.
So good bet the OP’s Samsung Android phone has both a product name (AKA trade name) and model name (AKA model number).
Sorry for the delay in my responses. I’ve been travelling.
I don’t own a 3d printer. I know people who do but I would like to get this size issue forgured out before asking other people to print me a case.
I don’t think that this is a good solution but there are probably open source designs out there for your exact case.
The box doesn’t list the case’s dimensions. But it has a sticker on it saying it’s the case for a Samsung Galaxy A12.
This is a possibility I’ve considered. Maybe the reason the new case looks smaller than my current case is because the current case has spent the last five years on my phone and it’s been stretched to a larger size.
I can, with difficulty, squeeze the new case on to my phone. But I can’t get it to stay on my phone. If I’m not holding the case on to the phone, it snaps off.
I also feel that if my current case had started out at this smaller size, I would have noticed it back in 2020 when I bought the phone and case.
No, this is the kind of possibility I’m wondering about. If I’m missing something obvious that somebody else can point out to me. But I’ve checked and your suggestion doesn’t seem to be the problem.
They appear to be two different products.
My understanding is that most OtterBox cases have this kind of sandwich frame (judging by the YouTube videos I’ve watched). But the one I have is a “Lite” version and it doesn’t have a sandwich frame, just a single frame that goes over the back of the phone.
That’s the issue. No store I’ve checked with carries cases for a phone from the long ago era of 2020. Some of the employees seem somewhat shocked that I’m still using a five year old phone.
I’m tempted to dig up my old phone, which had a flip cover and no touch screen, and bring that in to some of these places.
I’ve already returned the first one. I’ll probably be returning the second one as well.
Right now, my plan is to ask some younger relatives for help as I see them over the holidays.
Mine is the same. I click on the “About Phone” link in the Settings and it tells me my phone number, the model name (Galaxy A12), the model number (SM-S127DL), the serial number, the IMEI number, and the hardware version.
My thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
