Phoney bed linen sizes.

I don’t understand why people aren’t able to find sheets separately. I know that I’ve seen them sold that way at Kmart, Target, Macy’s, Sears and Lands End. But once when I was a kid, my frugal mother was surprised that a set of two pillowcases was more expensive than a single flat sheet, so she sewed her own.

YAY! Thanks.

They have their own bed?

I believe that size is (or was) called “single”. It’s not very common any more.

I must say, I love my mattress, a “Queen”, purchased a few years ago. BUT, it is very thick/deep and the sheets which should fit it based on size don’t. I mean, they DO, as in I use them, but they are constantly pulling up on the corners and it drives me NUTS!

It is quite to work-out to get them on to begin with, and then they creep up. I am constantly tugging them back on.

:smack:

It’s enough to make one turn to thoughts of conspiracy. :dubious::wink:

ps, a 60 yr old mattress? Wow! You’ve got me beat…had a futon for about 15 yrs.

When I gave birth at an Air Force hospital, this is how we were allocated bed linens, too. I believe that we (the patients) were expected to change them every day. It’s been nearly 30 years ago, so I don’t really remember how often we were supposed to change them.

When I was in the hospital (not an AF hospital this time) a few years back, the housekeeper changed top and bottom sheets on MWF, and the bottom sheets were knit fitted sheets. It was sort of like sleeping on a nice big Tshirt…very comfy.

No, never heard of that rule, at least not in my dorm. My student job was in a different dorm’s housing services office. If I saw the trees TPed on the way to work, I knew that 1)there would be a lot of requests for toilet paper that day and 2)I would probably be told to give only one roll per floor.

Yeh, you have to get the “deep pocket” sheets, as I’m sure you know. However, if your mattress is 15 inches thick, you can’t trust that the deep pocket sheets which say they’ll fit 15 inches actually will. You have to buy a bigger pocket, like I found out. I buy 18 inch pocket sheets to fit my 15 inch thick mattress. After a couple of washings, they’ll fit just right.

Ikea is another place that sells each sheet separately, and you can buy pillowcases (in pairs) by themselves, too.
