While staying up late last night, I saw an infomercial for a company called Learning Strategies. They were advertising a system called PhotoReading. Apparently this lets you look at a page and memorize it, or something like that. Anyway, I gleaned a little more info from their website, but not as much as I’d hoped. Does anyone have any experience with this company?

There was a thread on the subject on 12-27-2000 http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=52836 Interestingly, the two who posted in support of the concept were connected to the company. One of them was the President of Learning Strategies!
You have to ask yourself two question. If this is such a great idea - why isn’t it taught in schools? Why was this Pete guy the first to think of it?
As a doper, you should be able to smell this horse patty from two towns over.
There are people who naturally have this ability; my maths tutor was one of them; she could look at the pages of a novel, turning them quite quickly, then read the book back to you from memory (‘reading’ it in her mind) although on rare occasion, she would stop and cry out “I can’t turn the page”.
I very much doubt that this is a technique that just anyone can learn.
