See them here. From Nasa’s Cassini spacecraft. I especially like the diamond-ring effect from sunlight glinting off that lake on Titan.
And this is why we really are amazing, when we choose to be.
That’s not a moon!
I have a very bad feeling about this!
(Edit: Those are some seriously awesome pictures. Thanks for sharing!)
Magnificent! I’m astounded by the incredible detail of some of those photos.
This is my favorite photo taken by Cassini of Saturn. It was taken on the dark side of Saturn looking back at the eclipsed sun. The earth is also visible in the photo!
They look so fake
(Shhh! It’s just a movie set located in New Mexico.)
OK, I give up. Where’s Waldo?
They must have a great flash on that camera.
The “fakest” looking, I think is the picture pudytat72 linked to. I still want a very large print of that one.
All that time & money & they couldn’t spring for the color film?
d&r!!!
… they really do look fake.
Fantastic! The universe is amazing.
The geysers on Enceladus!!! Wow, those are great shots.
Nice pictures. But my favorite picture of the Saturnian moons is still Cassini’s picture of Hyperion.
You know, I remember when Cassini first launched…and all the protesters, because it has an onboard nuclear power supply.
They were out there on the beach, the night it launched—at least some were weeping, openly.
I had some…choice words about that.
Wow, what a beautiful set of photos. So well composed, too, that they are out of the realm of mere scientific record and are real art as well. My favourite is the one showing the pattern of waves in the rings caused by the gravity of the moons.
Such a shame, though, about all the hogwash about God that fills a large proportion of the comments on that page. Why can’t people accept and appreciate the beauty of the solar system without having to drag religious bullshit into it?
Okay, now that’s cool.
Yay, new desktop image. 4 of my 5 last desktops were of Saturn. I need a new obsession.
