I was sent some photo files the other day that I am unable to open, and in a file format I never see before called PHP
What is PHP photo file format, and what is a good (hopefully little expense) program to open with ?
when I go searching for a program to open, all I see is warning signs in my head on the program downloads for that. What is a good and free from harm program to open with.
PHP is a scripting language, not a photo file format. Whoever sent you the photo screwed up. They didn’t send the photo. They sent a link to the script that was supposed to open the photo from their computer. The script probably won’t work on your computer.
PHP is not a photo file format, it’s a technology for making dynamic Web pages.
Some sites will give a .PHP file extension to a valid image file. I suggest you try renaming the file to .JPG and then opening it.
If you’re using Windows, I suggest using a universal image viewer such as IrfanView to open it. (If the image is a PNG file, for instance, IrfanView will offer to change the file extension for you.)
If the renamed file doesn’t work, it’s possible that the Web site in question is designed to prevent you (or your correspondent) from downloading images.
It’s more likely they went to a HTML page displaying the image (for example, a page from a slideshow), and chose “Save Page As…” from the web browser, assuming that would save the image.
Instead it saved the HTML of the page (generated by a PHP script), which is pretty much everything *except *the bit they wanted.
If you have the full URL you can go to the site and download it yourself, or ask the sender to give you the full URL so you can find the image.
