False equivalency. Kennedy was a patriot and truly dedicated to the betterment of the country. Schlafly was a cunt.
I don’t know that… but I was confining my remarks to observations about liberals and conservatives here.
Kennedy was dedicated to what he thought was the betterment of the country, but while he was sincere, he was mistaken, and he hurt much more than he helped.
Schlafly was dedicated to what she thought was the betterment of the country, and while she was sincere, she was also mistaken.
Cunts are admirable. Actually, come to think of it, assholes have their uses and benefits too. Schlafly was a piece of shit. She’s doing more good fertilizing the ground above her grave than she ever did in her life.
Ted Kennedy is a very poor analog to Schlafly, IMO. I would think somebody like Michael Moore makes a much better comparison, and when he dies, I’ll be interested to see what tributes he gets from the SDMB conservatives for his sincerity.
Given her vitriolic and deeply paranoid opposition to the ERA, based on her biblical droolery, I would say that this is in fact a fair assessment: it appears that her opinion of women in general would effectively reduce them to the part that makes babies plus a life-support system, so, being a woman, one would have to assume that that was how she viewed herself.
You are only measuring certain factors, leading to a finding of equivalency that doesn’t exist.
There are probably well over three ways that a brick of gold and a brick of mud could be measured and found equivalent. This doesn’t mean they are of equal value.
You can be dedicated, sincere, and mistaken because you are an outspoken idiot, or because you are wrong in the way that reasonable people can be wrong.
I can tell you right now that if Moore’s obituary were to appear in tomorrow’s headlines, I would not rejoice.
I would not praise his sincerity, but I’d certainly acknowledge his deep commitment to what he thought was right, and his willingness to push strongly for the underdog against the entrenched powers. I think his zeal for the result led him to be willing to shade the lines of accuracy, but I don’t believe his motives were anything but a desire to help those on society’s lower rungs from being stepped on too much.
So she was a monster, an asshole, and a piece of shit, “especially because of her name-calling”? But there’s no hypocrisy involved. Oooooookay…

She had all the characteristics of a rattlesnake, but she lacked the warmth.
Dealt with already. Try to keep up.
Also, I never said she was a monster solely because she was a name-caller, so you fail the logic test too.
As a matter of fact… Do you even have a point?
Someone who I personally knew and thoroughly detested died. I had passing acquaintance with the family, and expressed condolence. I’m the only persoh who knows I’m fibbing, but it does me no harm and might lighten their grief, however slightly. Very definition of a “white lie”. Its close, but kind is more important than honest.
But someone who determinedly sets out to be a public figure, to be a voice heard above others has no such entitlement. She wasn’t drafted, she volunteered, she was insistent. She had a right to speech, even cruel and harmful speech, them’s the rules. She is not entitled to respectful attention, and derision is nothing more than her due, living or dead.
And may her Hellbound Train run right on time.
She likely increased the net misery in the world, and helped promulgate the vapidly stupid conservative ideology that is infecting the world today, with Trump as the head of that rancid pimple.
It’s like Scalia, I’m not happy that anyone is dead, I am however glad that they can no longer do damage.
Of the dead, speak nothing but good.
She’s dead. Good.
I’m sure Satan has a kitchen that she can toil in for eternity.
But that would make her happy…unless she’s toiling away in the kitchen where a female version of Satan is in charge.
Zombie porno with J. Edgar Hoover and Nixon.
I seem to recall a few threads on Ted Kennedy.
According to Rule 34, someone will now take it upon themselves to create that.
Fuck, I posted that about Kennedy before I read the other posts. Dammit.
