I am doing a research paper on this topic for the University of phoenix(don’t go there that place is one for the pit) and I have hit a wall somewhat. People don’t really has a solid opinion here. Very wishy-washy. I don’t get it really and polling people has been a pain.
So, does anyone have an actual opinion on this matter? Is it to gray of an area?
I’m for it. If you’re terminally ill and looking at months or years of physical and emotional hell, you should have the right to get out. You should also have the right to have someone help you so you don’t accidentally live in even worse shape than you were in when you decided you wanted out. People frequently make mistakes in their suicide plan and end up with a less-than-complete attempt.
Oregon has it almost right. I believe people who have more than six months to live with a terminal disease should also have the right to opt out.
The rest of the country needs to take a step back, put down the bible, and figure out why they feel the need to interfere with the most basic personal liberty we have…the right to control our exit from this life.
After my cousin and his wife divorced she attempted suicide, pills I think. It didn’t work, and now she is a total invalid, helpless in a wheelchair being tended by her mother. Her young daughter, who lived with her father my cousin, had to be raised with the knowledge “Mommy is sick now, and can’t talk.”
