Why not get the XD-9’s big brother, the XD-45? Not something you can easily conceal but a hell of a gun to shoot.
Go to a Class 3 dealer and get yourself a really good integrally silenced Ruger .22. Look for one that is user-serviceable. I guarantee you will enjoy the piss out of it long after the novelty of a Deagle would have worn off. You could also consider buying a can and using it with one or more of the guns you already have, but I favor the integral units.
If you’re fond of both the .40 S&W and the 10mm, then maybe you’d like to try a .41 Magnum? Smith & Wesson has rereleased it’s Model 58 revolver. Something intermediate between the .357 and the .44.
If we’re looking for huge calibers, the .460 S&W Magnum seems cool, although I haven’t heard too much of it. Revolvers in this caliber shoot .460 of course, as well as .454 Casull, .45 (Long) Colt, as well as the older .45 Schofield if you’re inclined. .410 would probably tear up your rifling, though.
The .500 is a bitch. You’ll never shoot it, not even as a novelty. When I was 9-13, I’d shoot a .454 sometimes, and I’d enjoy it. I’ve shot the .500 – at 19 and 200 lbs – and it was alright, but it’s bot something I’d shoot again, even once and a while. Its just not fun in the same way.
On the other hand, a 327 M&P R8 is an 8 shot, .357 magnum that’s great to shoot. My dads got one and it’s downright cool. I’ve got the 686+, and I prefer it… And it’s a ton easier to get. Both of those are great options (if you can fond the 327, they’re near impossible).
The glock 17L (or the 24, the .40 version), if you can find one, is also a fantastic option. Its a thing of unimaginable comfort, the extra 2 inches you get over the 17. The trigger is great, extended mag and slide releases make the thing downright amazongly comfortable. There’s a slightly shorter version, the 34, that’s IDPA allowed, but it’s not as nice, IMO.
I’ve got other ideas, but the FiveSeven and 500 don’t even make ot on my list… Really, nothing i don’t already have makes it on my list… Maybe a Les Bear 1911, if I must buy a pistol for the 2k mark. (you’ll see a huge, huge difference between a les bear and your Kimber.
How about a sexy CZ?
Springfield Armory finally released the XD-M .45ACP. That is a hell of gun for a very nice price. It comes with nice goodies, too.
I fired a few magazines worth of .50 Action Express out of a Desert Eagle. It was fun. A big, loud, expensive, pointless toy. Neat, if you like that sort of thing.
Have you thought about a high grade target pistol in .22LR? They are very satisfying to use.
My favorite .22 is the Smith & Wesson Model 41, but I don’t know if they still make it.
If you want to expand your horizons and still buy a pistol, try a Thompson/Center Contender or Encore. They’re single-shot pistols with interchangeable barrels, so you can buy one receiver and then buy barrels for different calibers. The Encore handles more powerful rounds than the Contender. (And the Desert Eagle for that matter.) You can use iron sights or a scope. I’ve mainly seen them used for silhouette shooting with a scope, fired in braced positions rather than a normal pistol position. They even have rifle stocks and barrels, but I’m not sure what the legalities are in swapping rifle and pistol parts. It’s a versatile gun, good to have
You would generally want to fire those on a rifle range, though.
I fired one of these while at an outdoor gun range. The guy next to me asked me about my Beretta 96G Elite II .40S&W, so we swapped guns for a few rounds. That .460 is mean weapon, but not unpleasant to fire. I would not want to fire the .500 S&W with the 4" barrel!
Of the many, many handguns I’ve fired, the Ruger Super Blackhawk (10" barrel) in .44 Magnum was by far and away the most uncomfortable and least pleasant to shoot.
I’ve found the Desert Eagle to be heavy, prone to jamming unless you use the right ammunition in it, not especially accurate, and generally bulky and awkward. It’s a fun gun to shoot a few magazines through, but personally I wouldn’t want to buy one.
Why not get a reproduction LeMat cap & ball revolver? They’re supposed to be pretty good from what I hear.
I need to win the lottery. I’ve yet to see a bad idea here and I can’t afford most of them. My budget is largely theoretical in that I can’t go down to the shop today and buy one, but I will eventually.
I will say this, though. It’s good to see that the 1911 mafia is not firmly entrenched here. If I posted this elsewhere I’d get nothing but suggestions for high-end 1911s (only one of those here unless I missed others). It’s always good to see variety.
One other thing, for SenorBeef: HK. Because you suck. And we hate you.
Uh, your Kimber pretty much covers that, doesn’t it?
It’s my learned opinion that, at this stage in handgun development, most “Standard” or “Government” M1911s are pretty much of a muchness, so unless you want to start getting into high-end Race Guns, Ultra-Tactical stuff, or specialist sporting applications, then there’s no particular reason to get another M1911- especially if you’ve already got a Kimber, who make pretty decent stuff anyway.
My suggestion is nice and cheap! C’mon!

$239, with everything you need.
You know you want a six-shooter, Doors.
You can be into a really good user-serviceable, integrally suppressed Ruger .22 for about a grand, tax stamps included. Not only will it provide you with endless fun, but you will also be pretty much guaranteed to be the coolest guy at the range every time you haul it out. Certainly, you’ll be cooler than any Deagle-blasting tool.
The trick with that is getting my CLEO to sign off on it. I’ve not received any indication that he would be adverse to it, but you never know.
I know I could go the NFA Trust route, but that’s a hassle that isn’t really worth it for me, at least not for the next few years. Still, I suppose nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Kick it old-school w/o the BP mess.
From everything I’ve heard/read, Ruger SAs are damned near indestructible. I’ve put some pretty hot loads through mine, with no problems more pressing than some minor hearing loss.
As a cantankerous old coot of a friend of mine (and fellow .45 Colt devotee) likes to say, “.44 Mag is for commies and fags!”
And before I forget: get yourself a decent 1911.
I guess it was only a matter of time. I suppose I asked for it.
