Pick Your Favorite Version of a Song - #1: "Land of 1000 Dances"

For no important reason, I’m doing a poll of what version of a popular song you like best. For this one, I’ve picked “Land of 1000 Dances”.

There may be other similar polls if this goes well. Also, I don’t want to have a monopoly of this matter so feel free to put up your own polls of different versions of other songs.

Anyway, here’s Poll #1 (with videos of each version).

Well, I’ll agree that this is the strangest version of Land of 1000 Dances; I can’t even tell they’re the same song!

:smack: I guess reading more than the OP would be of benefit.

I didn’t know about that one. If I had, I would’ve included it. Good cover that mostly draws from the Wilson Pickett version.

I love a good cover of a good song. I have maybe five versions of Dark End of the Street

Aye; that’s why I like it. The arrangement and style have the crisp attack that Pickett’s version has, but the performance is so loose and joyous that it transcends, IMO.

I fucked up my vote. I meant to vote “other” and it is the J. Geils Band.

Yup.

Patti Smith (it is a sequence of the larger piece “Land” on her first album)

Wait. They did another one after Cannibal & the Headhunters? Why?

Sorry but that J. Geils drummer is a lame.

You can’t beat the Wicked Pickett!

Of those guys, I picked Wilson Pickett.

But, in my world, it is a marching band staple: Here is UConn playing it.

Seconded.

Beat me to it.
