Another they recycled was when Aunt Clara became a reluctant babysitter for one of Darrin’s clients; the parents were furious over her claim to the child that she was a witch and took her to court for some reason, where the judge asked her only one question: are you free to babysit my daughter this weekend? Later they did the exact same plot with Esmerelda.
Another casting suggestion for Endora: Jennifer “Edina” Saunders (of AB-FAB). Or Cher. Or, keeping with the lesbian theme started by Ms. Moorehead, Ellen DeGeneres.
I’m tempted to type-cast Alice Krige as Endora, but Alice is also very young looking (maybe she’d make a better Samantha). Endora was something of a parallel to the Borg Queen, after all.
To answer a couple questions from my (limited) knowledge about Uncle Dick:
Sampiro: Yes, he liked his co-stars a lot, and used to hang out with Elizabeth Montgomery and her husband quite a bit.
Re. the money, he didn’t get much. Something about his contract’s “residuals clause” was not designed to his best advantage. He got his last check for “Bewitched” just a year and a half after production stopped; the check was for $13.
And no, he had no ego at all; he was a really terrific, generous person.
CalMeacham, he was indeed born Richard Cox. He said jokingly (and lovingly) once, “My mother never in her life understood what was wrong with the name Dick Cox.”
As for the movie, I guess I could see Mike Myers playing Darrin. But as soon as I read the first post above, mentioning the possibility of a movie, I thought immediately of Toby McGuire as Darrin.
Yes, she was, or at least bi (not that there’s anything wrong with that). She married and divorced twice and had an adopted son, but her orientation was an open secret in Hollywood.
Lots of cites, but herehttp://www.outuk.com/content/features/bewitched/]are afew .
Quite an eye-opener. I did not know any of that. Thank you for enlightening us. Hmm. That Bewitched Forever book sounds like something I’d like to read.
In another thread, from a year or two ago, somebody suggested Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton as the Darrens. Another suggestion was Mike Meyers and Adam Sandler.
Whoever plays the role, I think it’s important that the other characters not notice the change.
