From 1928 to 1935, actress Barbara Stanwyck was married to actor/comedian Frank Fay. He was a vaudevillian whose career was in decline. Later, he tried unsuccessfully to break into politics by accusing people of being communists.
I am curious to see a picture of this guy. I don’t know why, I’d just like to know what he looked like. Apparently he was kind of a jerk, and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to see it in his eyes. According to IMDB he has appeared in twelve films, but there are no pictures of him available. I’ve done Google image searches, Altavista image searches, looked for Barbara Stanwyck tribute pages, all to no avail. Where can I see a picture of this dude?
I’ve seen some of his early 1930s movies, and they were pretty terrible—he was one of those stage actors who just didn’t “translate” well to film. Came off as rather wooden and, well, “fey.” They turn up on TCM every so often—check out their schedule and do a search on him!
He must have had better stage presence, as he had a pretty respectible stage career. I understand that ego-wise he was up in the Al Jolson Unbearability Regions.
Thanks, Eve. Yes, he apparently was not well-liked. I guess he got violent when he drank and roughed up poor Barbara a few times. Her star so outshone his, he must have been jealous of her.
He’s not exactly what I expected (but then, I didn’t expect him to look just like I expected him to, so I guess he is exactly what I expected). He’s a little bit goofy-looking, actually. He doesn’t look like a haunted, tortured soul at any rate.
