Pictures of my Cross-Country Train Trip

This is pretty M and P, but about a month ago I decided to take the train from California to New York and spend about a week in New York City. It was one hell of a trip, especially in coach eating nothing but peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches. I really reccommend the trip to anyone (I was on the Califonia Zephyr route) especially before Amtrak is forced to discontinue it’s scenic cross country service.

So here are my pictures!

Excellent!

I love trains.

Cool pics. How long does the trip take? Not that I plan to go, I’m just curious how long you had to survive on pb&j.

it was four full days and three nights. I also had some red pepper spread, pesto, powdered vitamin C drink mix, pear juice and dried fruit. But mostly it was PB&J all the way.

Great idea, posting your gallery of photos; lots of fun to look at and imagine the trip. I especially liked the fountain shots and also the ones of Chicago. Did you get off the train at all in Philly? And are there shots of New York? Thanks so much for sharing.

Some years ago, between jobs #1 and #2 (Career change thread), I spent 5 weeks driving cross country and back.

Sometime, before I die, I hope I get the chance to do a long-distance train trip across the US. After seeing these shots, I want to do that even more, now. Man, those photos are cool, even sven. Thanks for posting the link!

I love the California Zephyr, even sven and I’m wiping away a nostalgic tear looking at your pics. Kiddoeaddi and I were on that train on New Years Eve when 1999 turned to 2000 and it was barrels of fun.

OTOH, wild horses couldn’t get me back on the one that goes from Philadelphia to Chicago - the Empire Builder (?), I think.

::shudder::

Filthy, jam packed, 6 hours late, no food, thermostat stuck at 110° and a screaming lady who went the distance all the way from 30th Street Station to the end of the line in Chicago.

Wow, cool pictures. I want to do that some day (if I ever get the chance … sigh. Disappearin’ railroad blues and all that).

For some reason I’m really surprised to discover you’re not a blonde. I don’t know why.

Maybe you just know me too well.

I’m a natural blonde, although I spend more time pink, blue, and black than blonde.

I read that as, “I’m really surprised to discover you’re a hot blonde.”

Teehee.

Good shots of … Colorado.
Well, at least you made a lot of friends!
