Okay before anyone takes the bandwagon and states that Nutscrape is better, I beg your pardon but this is not a debate about which is better. I have Nutscrape and I hate it.
That said, Internet Explorer just freaked out on me.
My menu bar disappeared, I have been having problems with left click (after a while on the net) and it crashes a lot.
Okay so I got the fucking menu bar back but it’s on the bottom of the icons and address bars.
Fucking A, this is pissing me off. I am a fucking (okay I fuck occasionally) techchick so why is this so fucking difficult to figure out?
I want my MENU BAR ON TOP just like any other program I own! In other programs I can drag and drop the bars to meet my needs, IE 5.x wont let me do this.
Okay, a stupid rant but it’s just not right damnit!
I occasionally get problems with IE, but usually only with certain web sites that are programmed horribly. As of yet, IE is the best browser I’ve used, and I’m probably going to stick with it for a while.
One thing you might want to do is check for bug fixes. There are quite a lot, but once you get them IE works like a dream.
Until, of course, you hit those crappy-coded sites, then the whole computer locks up.
Oh I dream of Internet Explorer.
Try working with AOL. You’ll shoot yourself in the head inside of an hour.
I have IE at work and I love it. I had it through a different ISP at home, until one day it decided to disable itself. I, not being a particularly skilled techdude, have no idea how to get it running again so I am stuck in AOHELL.
AOL Browser:
No little windows - if you click a linked thread, for example, it blocks out the thread your on.
Bold’s do not show up in threads.
The stupid AOL tool and message bars take up like 98% of the screen.
And navigating pages is limited to one “back” buton.
As far as I can tell this is nothing but a nasty rumor. When IE was working, if I tried to open it up through AOL it went to the dialer, as set up in the Control Panel. But, it’s a moot point anyway as everytime I try to open up IE, I get a fatal error.
BTW, I love that - “Fatal Error” - real fear of God type stuff right on your monitor.
I heard so much bad about IE 5, that I’m not upgrading my IE 4.72 or so. I’ve applied just about every bugfix I can to it,and it runs fine. So, since it’s not broke, I ain’t fixing it.
I had a seat of 4.something that did exactly what TC is complaining about. I tried everything in my (limited) power to get that damned menu bar to come back. The pisser was that, if I opened another window of it, the menu bar would be there. I took to automatically opening a second window whenever I booted it. Then, after a few months, the menu bar reappeared. I have no idea why.
They both suck. IE is better in some respects, worse in others. What works for me? I redownloaded it a little while ago, every time it start getting all buggy I just reinstall. That takes care of most of the problems.
Also I’ve started using StarOffice’s browser recently. I like that one a lot.
If you’re such a ‘tech chick,’ then you should have taken a moment to READ THE FRICKEN HELP FILE before attacking a perfectly good product. Clicking everywhere on the screen doesn’t solve a thing.
I.E. always loses the menu bar on new windows and I end up having to restart the application to get them back. Plus, every once in a while the right clicks stop working – which is horrible if you’re stuck in a window with no menu/navigation controls at all. I’ve had the left-click problem, but not nearly as often.
What REALLY PISSES ME OFF, however, is the fact that it opens bookmarks in random other windows instead of the one in which I select the bookmark. Who the hell thought up THAT bright idea??!?!?!
That said, Netscape bites the big one, which is why I know so much about IE’s foibles.
One of my other gripes with IE is that you can’t just fucking alphabetize the motherfelching favorites. You can rearrange them manually, but you can’t just click a stupid button to sort them.
Yes, Altair, I did RTFM. Or, more like, RTFHS because nobody ships anything with a bloody manual anymore. Especially with new computers. I wonder how Joe Schmo ever does anything that isn’t spelled out in the “Getting Started” brochure.
Oh, yeah. He doesn’t, until he calls Techchick.
Um, Lexi, I think you might be reading more into it than was intended. Or not.
Techie, does a Colorado beer shower involve a half-barrel of Coors hooked up to the plumbing?
The menu bars are objects in IE 4 and 5 … on the side of them (far left), you will notice small ridges that you can actually click on and pull about. The individual menu is attached to this ‘ridge’ and can be manipulated using it. Works quite well.
If that is not clear, ICQ me (3974292) and I will walk you through it.
