Eek, tongue-splitting is definitely not for me. Although I have to admit the idea of having two mini-tongues moving independently intrigues me a little.

My first hit had a couple of pictures, so were our googles somehow different? My thought process at the time was something like: ah, well I’ll just check out the description to see whether it’s …
Ugh. That kind of mutilation is just gross. My body is fine the way Gawd made it, thanks. No “splitting” required.
I’ve heard of (and seen pictures of ) this years ago. Apparently it’s getting popular again.
Goth girl speak with forked tongue. (It had to be said)
Just what the f**k is wrong with you kids?
what really worries me is what the kids will be doing when my 7 year old is 17. What can I expect: finger amputation? toe-splitting? cutting your lips in half?
A website called “BMI Extreme” discusses finger amputations under it’s “nullification” section, among other - ahem! - body abreviations. (Note, I did not provide an active link, so if you go there, it’s not my fault - it wasn’t an accident, you had to work at it)

Yuck. I’d never heard the term before, but I was aware of penis splitting, although found it hard to believe that it’s considered decorative. I wish the link I’d found didn’t have pictures.
Maybe it’s because I’m female, but the tongue pics freak me out almost as much. Dear lord, Sunspace. Urk.
A friend of my daughter’s had that tongue thing done. If you think a tongue piercing is distracting, try talking to someone who has a split one.
When my daughter came in and asked if she could have some tattoos, I was relieved.
I think the strangest aspect of this is that the original article was in The Globe And Mail! (For you Merikens, that newspaper is the equivalent, roughly, of the Wall Street Journal combined with the New York Times.)
Hey, you wanna see some body modification? Check out (don’t panic mods, nothing panicworthy) Joshua: Transdimensionally Modified. Tongues are child’s play.
It’s so you can … ehh… put bigger things in your urethra
Too horrible to contemplate…
:dubious:
:smack: Why did i contemplate it.
And from the article:
" Lawmakers in Illinois are considering regulations that would all but outlaw it."
Say what? Stopping piercing parlors from doing it is just going to result in people doing it at home.
I have a book/magazine called Re/Search #12: Modern Primitives. It has articles tattoos, scarification, piercings, etc. It also has a photo of a split penis. The guy says he can put the halves together for urination and sex.
About 8 years ago, I heard someone say (only SEMI-facetiously) that tattooing and branding were so common now, so passe, that there was only one place left to go, for those looking to shock people: amputation! Eventually, she said, it was inevitable that people will start simply CUTTING OFF ears and pinkies.
I USED to think she was exaggerating… but I’m not sure now (heck, I’m pretty square and out of it… it wouldn’t surprise me a bit if there are already social subsets where amputation is now regarded as old hat!).
Why oh WHY did I look?:smack:
And ftr…that Joshua kid must be sick…or twisted…or delusional…or all three.
Must…not…look…at…penis…splitting…link…Ooops…too late.I looked!

Anybody got an Altoid?

… The Joshua article was an April fools joke, though it’s perfectly possible to do all the thing he was supposed to have done
Well…if that was an April Fool’s joke…it sho’ fooled me.
But this didn’t. It made me have the full body quivers AND the pukes.

Ok, I’m not saying that I doubt this. I have seen too much, so that nothing surprises me anymore.
That said…
Is it me, or do some of the images look photoshopped?
this one for example:

Which is not saying that the modifications aren’t real, but it does make the story a bit suspect. At least in my mind.
ah, well, there you go.
