A cricket helmet offers more protection than a baseball helmet. It has more internal padding as well as a face mask - it’s probably half way between a baseball helmet and an American football helmet in terms of the amount of protection offered.
As has been mentioned earlier in this thread, a cricket ball that hits the batsman in the head will have bounced first, reducing its speed and therefore making it less likely to cause injury - when a batsman gets hit on the head in cricket, they are shaken up, but are usually able to continue batting.
