Pimps are one notch above slaveowners in my book. How the hell they’ve become cool in our culture is beyond me. Dressing your child up as when is just disgusting.

For sure, but this type of “pimp” is in the same class as pirates, outlaw cowboys, knights in armour, etc… so far removed from their corresponding figures in contemporary social reality that they are generally considered inoffensive.
I’m with you. Something tells me MTV wouldn’t have been as comfortable with a show called Whore Out Your Car. Yeah, part of it is just the ridiculous image of '70s-style pimps in colorful velvet suits and feathered hats. But if a kid asks ‘What’s a pimp, anyway?’ there’s really no way to get around the fact that ‘Well, honey, it’s a man who gets money from girls and women who sleep with men for money. Sometimes he protects them from bad men, and sometimes he gives them drugs. But if they’re really bad and lie to him he fucks them up good.’
