I’m feeling “Pimp My Ride”, “MADE” and “High School Stories” right now.
“The Real World” has it’s moments but I never really got into the “Real World/Road Rules” challenge, when I was like 13 I could not get enough of a show called “Undressed” because it felt like watching some really softcore porn.
I liked that show when P. Diddy was putting together that rap group and they all had to live in the same house, I think it was called “Making of the Band”.
Eventhough I don’t buy her music I used to watch Jessica Simpson on “Newlyweds” alot and I also used to watch “The Osbournes”.
I saw this new show where these bands are trying to make it to Ozzfest, I only saw it once but it was definitely something I would watch again.
I also had some Beavis and Butthead DVD’s and a really old Anime style cartoon called “Aeon Flux” I have a few video tapes of that.
I was born in 1981, shortly after the inception of MTV, so I grew up watching the channel. Many of my favorite shows are on MTV. I absolutely love “Pimp My Ride”, “Made”, “Real World”, Road Rules", “The Challenge”, “Newlyweds”, and “The Osbournes”. I, too miss “Undressed”. I was amazed at how much they were able to get away on that show. It was also one of the first shows I saw that dealt with homosexuality and bisexuality in such an honest manner. Gay people treated were just like everyone else on the show, something I had never seen before on TV.
I think it would be cool to get my ride “pimped”, except for the things they add that are just dumb. Like DVD monitors in the back of my rear-seat headrest. Why do I need those? I don’t want the people behind me watching my DVD! And they usually add a HUGE spoiler. A small spoiler can look good, but a huge one lokos dumb.
But I am very impressed with the skills of the crew at West Coast Customs. To be able to do that to these cars is amazing. I really like the interior guy, cause he is like a maniac with that sewing machine.
I am helplessly drawn to Pimp My Ride. If I’m channel surfing and catch a glimpse, I’m there. I wouldn’t necessarily like to have my ride pimped (too many geegaws to break or be stolen, IMO) but I’m awed by the creativity and skills expressed.
I used to be helplessly drawn to The Real World and Road Rules, but the last season I watched (regularly) of TRW was New Orleans and the last RR crew was, um, wait, lemme check… season 9 (Maximum Velocity). I have no idea who the new kids are, and when I see an episode of the RW/RR Challenges now, I’m completely lost.
By now, there’s about as much reality in an episode of The Real World as an episode of As The World Turns. I don’t know why they’re still bothering.
On one show I saw, the car really wasn’t – it had been in an accident and the body work was done with epoxy and duct tape, and the car was so unrestorable that they just bought the kid a new Scion xB and then pimped that out for him. The folks at the customizing shop didn’t understand why the car hadn’t split in two going around a sharp curve. I think the kid was probably quite fortunate; he drove his mom and little sisters around in that rustbucket and it was a disaster waiting to happen.
Not even welded all the way. Only spot welded here and there, a line of welding on the top, and the rest was liquid nails! The show can actually say that it might have saved a life or two.
I used to love watching PIMP MY RIDE. I thought they should have put a little more focus into the engine work than they did, but I realize it is not that kind of show.
Lately, I have been of two minds about the show. I still like it, because the things that got me hooked to the show are still there, but now I am bugged with speculation of the longevity of these cars.
I would like to see a followup episode of these people. Do these people really appreciate the work that it took to get the car to that stage, and more importantly do they realize the upkeep that will be required to keep it there. The people seem to lack either the funds or interest, in maintaining their cars. How many have had there cars ganked, or components like the rims stolen? What are they going to do when it’s time to replace the tires and they see the price for those nice low profiles?
I’ve only seen a few episodes of Pimp My Ride, but I was a little weirded out by the one I saw where they put a fish tank in the console. Isn’t that going to be a slate-wiper for the fish? Isn’t that kind of cruel? I don’t see how they could possibly survive the vibration, let alone the temperature changes and everything else. They had little goldfish in it.
But yeah, I love the guys who work on the cars. They always look like they’re having the most fabulous time.
