This is extraordinary, I can’t put my finger on the allure of this scenerio. In Vermont, we have a small cabin on a lake, it’s been in the family for years. When I am up there I usually smoke on the back porch over looking the lake, with every star in the cosmos glaring down. On good nights, one can not tell which way is up because the lake will get like glass and reflect perfectly the night sky. The pipe just adds a little rush of goodness. I think the clarity and goodness and wisdom that are associated with the pipe are centuries old. I mean Tolkien always has a Hobbit with a pipe. Pippin and Merry wen’t through hell and back and still had their pipes.
Maybe it is because they are much cleaner than a cigar or cig. Interesting.
I quite like it but not for too long… more like a whiff of it in the air is pleasant but sitting in a room that really smells of it isn’t.
I really HATE cigarette smoke and I don’t have the words to describe my loathing for cigar smoke (I feel queasy even thinking about).
I suppose the pipe smell isn’t so bad in my mind because my Father used to smoke one (though I have read that pipe smokers have a higher incidence of tongue and throat cancers).
My SO’s father smokes a pipe, and three guy friends at college smoked pipes (yes, they were fully paid up Young Fogeys and the finest of chaps. One guy would listen to the Sex Pistols while smoking black cherry tobacco. Odd).
I find the smell of pipe smoke oddly appealing. Cigarette smoke used to not bug me a great deal, but now I think it’s horrible. I quite like cigar smoke. Some cigars smell far better than others.
I like both cigar smoke and pipe smoke. I don’t think I’ve smoled my pipe in a couple of years. Maybe I should go out and get som good stuff. I almost brought some back from Europe with me this past summer. It’s just to damn cold outside to smoke now though.
